From what I’ve seen people were claiming that, despite the change of packaging, the bottle contains the same juice, but that’s definitely not the case for at least one reason – the location where it was produced. It is not quite as “Latin” in terms of oakiness and in particularly smokiness as the Bacardi Reserva. Bacardí® 8 Year Old Premium Golden Rum has been specially crafted using selected barrel-aged rums ranging from eight to nine years old. Liked it better than both the more expensive Bacardi 10 year old, as well as many much more expensive bottles including several other 12 year olds (like El Dorado and Flor de Cana), the sweeter Diplomatico Reserva, and even the Plantation XO 20th Anniversary.Still this hasn’t stopped the Bacardi Bashers and the Rum Conspiracy Theorists (there are some absolute crackers to be found online) from suggesting otherwise……. This complexity of flavours is also what makes BACARDÍ Reserva 8 particularly suited to cocktails that require depth and balance such as an Old Fashioned, Rum Negroni, or Hotel Nacional. A refined and crafted sipping rum for the mature palate, this has a rich and complex flavour to be savoured. It’s even more impressive the fact that the Ocho simply has more body, while retaining most of the original aroma of its older version.
