About this deal

Because the killer will also be doing their best to turn everyone against each other, you're in for a tense half-an-hour or so where the gloves come off. The world of Agatha Christie has been translated into a tense but fun card game of mystery, bluffing and deduction - where everyone is guilty but only one of them is guilty of murder. It’s as if the villain in one of the original novels, rather than cleverly covering their tracks, preferred to walk around covered in blood, clutching a dripping dagger and wearing a bright pink T-shirt saying: IT WAS ME! He began as a convention reporter for FLiP Magazine and Albany Radio's The Shaw Report to get free badges to Comic-Con. Pick up the latest issue of the UK's fastest-growing gaming magazine in print or digital here or subscribe to make sure you never miss another issue.

Though the gameplay may not be varied and chaotic enough for a bunch of adults to play, Agatha Christie’s Death on the Cards would be perfect if you need to entertain a kid for half an hour or so. As such, players have no choice but to air each other's dirty laundry if they want to catch the murderer before they make good their escape. Auroch Digital is a Bristol-based independent video games development studio and consultancy, known for our high-quality, faithful board game IP adaptations including Ogre, Dark Future and Chainsaw Warrior.

As a result, the gameplay was quick but not quite varied enough to hold the interest of four twenty-somethings. various motives and secrets (or red herrings) are there, and various twists on her story titles are present. Our aim is to inspire those who read, play or encounter our work with tales of heroism, adventure and courage. Namely, it misses a trick by not delving into who has been killed, and there's only one generic piece of artwork to represent each secret. There is a fascinating occurence in the game when all of one player's secrets are revealed (turned face-up on the table).

As the ‘Murderer’ your aim is to either use up the play deck until the ‘The Murder Escapes’ card is revealed, or get everybody else to reveal all their ‘Secret’ cards. There has been a murder and you must use your detective skills to uncover the culprit - however the path of justice won’t be that simple for you have deep dark secrets you want to keep hidden while trying to shine the light of truth on to this dastardly deed! In Agatha Christie: Death on the Cards, which consists of a deck of eighty cards, players work co-operatively to solve a murder, using their detective skills to unmask the culprit and prevent their escape. The result is that you’ll try to trade cards with others around the table, accumulating the ones you need to unmask the murderer. For instance Look into the Ashes cards allow you to choose a card from the discard pile while the Early Train to Paddington allows you to move six cards from the draw pile to the discard pile: each of these affects the speed the draw pile reduces thereby either abetting or hampering the murderer’s escape. These are the top 3 cards from the deck, face up on the table to be chosen as an alternative to drawing from the draw pile. The twist is that one of the players is the murderer and must work against the group to keep themselves hidden. Although a challenge, knowing from the start the identity of the ‘Murderer’ takes much away from the excitement. Uncovering all of a player’s secrets, if they aren’t the murderer, plunges them into social disgrace and renders them unable to continue their investigation.

Recruit the assistance of Agatha Christie’s most beloved detectives — such as Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple, or Ariadne Oliver — to find out which secrets your fellow players are hiding. It makes it fair for the murderer to have a chance to win so it is not too overwhelming with everyone out "to get him". The detective cards are used to uncover players' secrets and thus discovering the killer's identity. The twist is one of YOU is the murderer and will be secretly trying to thwart the rest and get clean away! The quick play-discard-draw cycle makes for a pretty fast-paced game, even with four people, though it doesn’t inspire chaos or require a lot of strategy.

In addition, the ‘Accomplice’ card in larger games helps even out the balance and keeps the pace moving. Once they’ve heard all your despicable secrets they’ll be able to set up a lucrative career as a blackmailer so you need to work together to make sure that definitely doesn’t happen.
