About this deal

A 4:27 edited version of " The Visitors" was replaced by the original 5:49 version, while an alternate mix of "Lovelight" was replaced by the version originally released in 1979.

Instead, the three songs that had been removed from the domestic version of Gold: Greatest Hits —" Super Trouper", " I Have a Dream" and " Thank You for the Music"—were included. Tretow producer: Benny Andersson ( ABBA) and Björn Ulvaeus bass guitar: Rutger Gunnarsson(on 1977-08-02) cello: Hans‐Göran Eketorp ( Swedish cellist)(on 1977-09-08) congas and percussion: Malando Gassama(on 1977-08-02) drums (drum set): Ola Brunkert(on 1977-08-02) guitar [lead guitar]: Lasse Wellander(on 1977-08-02) instruments: Bengt Sundberg ( French horn player)(on 1977-09-08) keyboard: Benny Andersson ( ABBA)(on 1977-08-02) oboe: Bo Eriksson(on 1977-09-08) saxophone: Lars O. It also has a couple of their better non-album b-sides ("Lovelight", "I Wonder (Departure)") as well as an unreleased track ("I Am the City").ABBA reminds me of some outside artists who make up their own world and there is our world and then there's ABBA's world. A live recording had featured on the B-side of ‘The Name Of The Game’ in 1977, which was planned to be included on this disc, until ABBA sound engineer Michael B. The Australian release featured the European track list, not the Australasian track list on the 1999 issue. In 2010, the DVD was remastered with six bonus clips, including five "split-screen" versions of the clips to show which improvements were made by remastering the old videos.

Whilst I acknowledge the songs are not quite all as brilliant as Abba Gold (1) the CD is still pretty good with more excellent songs on it like Eagle, The day before you came and I was pleased with it. My faves are 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', 'Voulez Vous', 'One of Us', 'Name of the Game' and 'Lay All Your Love On Me'. More ABBA Gold’s 20 tracks take in the full scope of the band’s diverse catalogue, reaching back to the group’s first album for 1973’s “Ring Ring” and extending into the ‘80s for such latter-day hits as “The Visitors” and “When All Is Said and Done. Interestingly, this is the only version of More ABBA Gold to have a different tracklist for Australia and New Zealand: replacing “I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do” with “Super Trouper”; removing “Ring Ring” and “Lovelight”; and adding “I Have a Dream” and “Thank You for the Muisc” instead. The final product ended up with a bit of a split personality, from both the original concept and the idea of a “more greatest hits” album.

The UK saw a 30th Anniversary Edition released in 2004 with a gold-coloured sleeve cover with black writing, rather than the normal black sleeve with gold writing. While Gold: Greatest Hits had showcased nineteen of the group's biggest and most recognisable hits, this left out a number of other sizeable international hits, such as " Summer Night City", " I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" and " Angeleyes". Although PolyGram had made all of the original studio albums available (along with the 1986 live album which had originally been issued by Polydor worldwide), all previously released ABBA compilations had been deleted. ABBA are the first group from a non-English-speaking country to achieve consistent success in the charts of English-speaking countries, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United States.
