About this deal

I. Warshawski, created by Sarah Paretsky, in Indemnity Only, also in 1982, private detectives in fiction were almost always male. Alas, LJ's reviewer was equally unenthusiastic in an April 1, 1982, review, waving the book aside as "nothing to take it out of the ordinary. Eight years later and out on parole, Nikki Fife hires Kinsey Millhone to find out who really killed her husband.

So excellent so far - all the best ingredients of a mystery including a business partner, a bitter ex-wife, a pair of dysfunctional children and a blackmailing secretary. Nikki hired Wilfred Brentnell from Los Angeles: a legal whiz with a reputation as the patron saint of lost causes. She is hired by Nikki Fife, the convicted murdered of Lawrence Fife (her husband), to find out who really killed him. But the police and prosecutors argued that only Nikki could have poisoned one of Laurence's allergy capsules and she was thus convicted on this rather flimsy evidence. I do a certain number of investigations for them in exchange for two rooms with a separate entrance and a small balcony overlooking the main street of Santa Teresa.

Over the years, I continued to read each new offering in the series, with the exception of the last book written, 'Y is for Yesterday'.

Grafton said that the series would end with "Z" Is for Zero, but she died before she could begin writing it. His name was Parnell Perkins, and until shortly after midnight, he'd been a claims adjustor for California Fidelity. Kinsey's approach to detecting was reasonably realistic, I liked the old style feel to everything(was the 1980's really that long ago! using plenty of 'shoe leather' and interviewing all of the people in Laurence Fife and Libby Glass's life at the time of their murders.

A is for Alibi by Sue Grafton is a gripping mystery novel featuring private investigator Kinsey Millhone.

The dozen other stories, none previously published, feature Kit Blue, who, Grafton said, "is simply a younger version of myself.a b c d "Every Winner of the Anthony Award for Best Novel, Assembled For Your Crime Reading Pleasure". Inspired by her father, Grafton began writing when she was 18 and finished her first novel four years later.

Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this sociopath. The novel concludes with Kinsey looking forward to her next case, ready to face whatever challenges come her way. Perhaps her darkest and most chilling novel, it features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no trace of his crimes. Kinsey Millhone lives in Santa Teresa, California and is a rebellious and independent detective who has no thrived as a police officer, so set up on her own. When her investigation turns up a second corpse, more suspects, and a new reason to kill, Kinsey discovers that the edge is closer--and sharper--than she imagined. It was only later, after he'd stiffed her for her retainer, that Kinsey found out his name was Daggett.
