About this deal

Indoor speakers will require the proper UL rating depending on how your cables are run within your house. For a speaker wire to work properly, it has to be thick enough, meaning it has to have the correct gauge for the job. There are lots of different gauges, lengths, and connector types, and that can make choosing the right kind for your needs difficult. Speaker wires that are anywhere between 12 to 16 gauge are most commonly used for connecting speakers to an amplifier or an Audio/Video (A/V) receiver.

When determining which wire gauge to use, consider how far away the speakers are from your amplifier or A/V receiver.

Some common cables for speaker systems were standard lamp cords and zip cords that were twisted in pairs for convenience and sometimes soldered. Stripping is removing or cutting the outside coating of a cable to expose the active wire underneath to identify them easily. Our own Crutchfield-branded banana plugs are an excellent value and make connecting your speakers a breeze.

You need to consider the proper gauge that will deliver the best sound quality, how long of cabling you need, which type of cable you need, and what type of connectors are required by your speakers. The lower the resistance in the speaker wire, the more power gets through to the speaker coil resulting in better and more powerful sound. There are several options for the speaker cables' conductors, with the standard copper wire being the most obvious choice.Speaker wires did not exist on the market for most of the 20th century, though speaker systems were very much the thing. A lower-gauge number indicates a thicker wire, while a higher-gauge number indicates a thinner wire. Always read the instructions for information about care and usage as different speakers have different capabilities.

Someday you may wish to replace your speakers and you might as well plan on installing wire to handle that. Then contact your credit card company, it may take some time before your refund is officially posted. Thicker wire has less resistance to current flow, so it's best to use it with longer runs, high-power situations, and for lower-impedance speakers (think 6-ohm or 4-ohm).Speakers have one of two different types of speaker wire terminals — spring clips and binding posts (see illustrations below). Depending on where you live, the time it may take for your exchanged product to reach you, may vary. The thinnest wire you can get for your cable will depend on the impedance of your speaker and the distance the cabling has to run. Registered Office: 4th - 6th floor Wellington Buildings, 2-4 Wellington Street, Belfast, BT1 6HT (Northern Ireland - company number NI032565). The wires are too short to connect to my receiver, so I've had to use standard electrical butt splice connectors with 5ft of speaker wire to extend the wires.
