About this deal

Pitzorno creates a meandering tale which follows Alfonso on his quest to uncover, track-down, woo and marry a witch all before the deadline that has been handed to him. Brenda's teacher Miss Snarly, however, overhears this and is surprised to learn that there is a Papa Smurf. The other Smurfs manage to escape her grasp, but Scaredy ends up falling from the tree and is captured by the teacher. She spots a songbird nearby, so she lands down upon a tree and recites the words, "dog into catis, bird into batis", while focusing her powers on the bird.

Then Smurfette comes by and scolds the young witch for changing one of Mother Nature's creations into a frog. If you have to literally spell out the 'moral of the story' in the end, I don’t think it’s a good book to start with. Although the story is good and it’s an enjoyable read, I found the cast of characters in this book quite confusing – on many occasions. In the Smurf Village, Papa Smurf warns his little Smurfs about being around Witch Haven Conservatory, which, although is dangerous, is the only place they can find witch hazel. I also think it's important for children to see illustrations that look like someone just grabbed and pencil and paper and drew. An imaginative story based around the entertaining antics of the Zep family, it is certainly relatable for anyone with quirky relatives. She sits so silently that a host of spiders spin their webs around her onto which her tears fall like jewels.

It's thanks to that that I have a reading background so different from what my blue collar roots would ordinarily have led to. But who believes in witches in the 21st Century and in any case who would want to marry the ghastly Alfonso? She has won the Anderson award 6 times (85, 89, 88, 92, 95, 2001), has been nominated twice for the Hans Christian Andersen Award and has won several more awards for children s literature in Italy. One of the delights of belonging to goodreads is the rediscovery of books I've read and forgotten, particularly books from my childhood.Hefty suggests that she can try being good instead, but again Brenda doesn't know what being "good" means. After reading and enjoying two of Adrienne Adams' witchy Halloween tales - A Woggle of Witches and A Halloween Happening - despite finding the narrative of the second a little weak, I was curious to see what I would make of this, a witchy title illustrated by Adams, but written by someone else. Bianca Pitzorno is considered the Italian Roald Dahl and has already been translated into many languages. This book is well done and it helps to show that even if you are little, you still have the potential to be an extremely beneficial helper. The Littlest Witch is a fun book which will have many middle graders laughing along to the story, characters and the complicated issues that befall our main protagonist the evil Alfonso Terrible.
