About this deal

AmpliTube for iOS recreates your entire guitar or bass signal chain in your mobile device and also — depending on your device — provides you with other advanced features, like multi-track recording and editing, high-quality export and more. Getting things recorded is very straightforward, and setting gain is simple, aided by a basic LED level meter. Moreover, it's just a lot of work to haul my entire swath of guitar gear up into the living room for what amounts to 20 minutes of practice. But this is no ordinary standard “headphone” jack — it features a high-resolution headphone preamp that optimizes the audio signal for full range playback and monitoring.

When I plug de usb on my Macbook Pro 2015 or the lighting cable to my iPhone, the green light turn on but I can’t hear the sound of the guitar. Gain controls signal strength at a preamp level, which means you’ll find that the more it’s turned up, the more prone your signal will be to distortion.Guitar Chalk does not accept payment for our reviews, nor do we spend time reviewing products that we believe to be a waste of your time.

All these effects sounded clear, defined and had an almost addictive quality, coming through the iRig HD 2's interface. Quick and easy-access living room practice, that stays at minimal noise levels, is an ideal way to use the iRig HD 2. iRig 2's new 1/4” output jack lets you use iRig 2 with an amplifier as a part of your live rig without the use of an adaptor. The other end of the iRig includes a USB out which connects the USB cable that plugs directly into the computer. The “Thru” setting sends your guitar’s dry, unprocessed signal directly to the out jack, allowing you to use a floor-based or rack tuner, a pedalboard or even an additional full-on stage rig. With the toggle switch set to ‘THRU’ the output monitors the original, unprocessed signal at source, and when set to the ‘FX’ position will output the effected signal from IK’s own AmpliTube and the like. At this point we could hear ourselves playing through the MacBook’s speakers (or the MacBook’s headphones output), but we wanted to take advantage of the iRig’s built-in 1/8” headphones output, so we plugged in our trusty Beyerdynamic DT-770 PRO (80 ohm) headphones. Since I was using a Mac, the first step was to go to Settings - Sound and set the iRig HD 2 as both my input and output devices. enabling users to directly monitor the sound or send the signal to a PA or a mixer for routing flexibility. An additional benefit (that I overlooked before trying the iRig HD 2) is that the small interface lets you plug in and play nearly anywhere. My 2005 PRS CE 24 has five pickup combinations, all of which sounded rich and distinct through both the headphones and the iLoud monitors. Once your guitar and device of choice are connected, you have a few different options for listening in.With the heavier distortion settings, the signal came through a little noisy at times, though not more than I would expect with a physical amplifier.
