About this deal

These headphones have the same audio properties and physical design of HD 300 PRO, however Sennheiser have added switchable ActiveGard limiting protection at 110dB SPL. Do you like headphones that sit close to your head and don't stick out and make you look a little strange in public? The volume at which I listen to music on it has to be way lower than I thought, cause it feels like it's hurting my ears otherwise. HF: ALCHEMIST FOSERTI ADP15A MkII Class A, Arcam Alpha 5+ CD, Monitor Audio Studio 2 MkII, AudioQuest Quartz, AudioQuest Midnight III, Unicorn Feet. I have worked with and tested a huge variety of headphones, including Shure, Sennheiser, AKG, Beyerdynamic, Sony, and Audio-Technica, among others.

Complete with a soft headband and earpads, the HD 280 Pro II headphones are guaranteed to exceed the demands of professional sound environments. The precision of a pair like the HD 280 Pro is more surgical than magical, but here is where it separates itself from the typical, flat, light-on-bass studio reference pair.My record player's warmth shown through the Pioneer VSX-518 when I played Smashing Pumpkins' remastered version of Gish on vinyl, so it definitely reproduced my love for vinyl perfectly. The strong clamping force, which’s great for tracking, makes them hard to wear for extended periods. The worst part is that they’re actually marketed that way, which has almost become a meme at this point. Not the best cans for mixing, they're certainly not the flattest in terms of frequency response, but that's not what they're designed for. There's plenty of rich, articulate low frequency response here, but the entire frequency range is dutifully represented.

It feels like Sennheiser started with the diffuse field target response (that the DT770's are also tuned to) and then just kind of messed with it until they liked it. The new headband padding is exceptionally cushy and awesome, and it looks like it's showing up on the upcoming HD300 Pro as well. Nowadays, headphones having replaceable cables has become the standard, seeing that the wires are usually the first things to go sour with any new purchase. Andertons Music Company is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, firm registration number 716155. The earpads are manufactured with velour finish, and a single side access, removable 3m coiled cable can be replaced with the included 1.To increase the passive sound isolation HD 280 Pro uses relatively strong clamping force, yet the excessive force applied to the listener’s head becomes tiring rather sooner than later. The GD graph also shows that the group delay response is almost entirely below the audibility threshold. But as someone who wears these headphones on a more or less daily basis, I can tell you they fit securely and comfortably for long sessions.

The head band connection that's made of pastic broke and I had to use electrial tape to fix it, but I guess that says a lot about how much I use them and they still sounds great. While I like how the bass on the 280’s are not muddy in addition to being neutral, there are times where it’s somewhat lacking. If you want to pulverize the headphones and your eardrums, yes, you can achieve distortion, but not at levels you will ever want to actually listen at. The right joint on my pair occasionally emits a creak, and I found a small scratch on one side of the headband that seemed like it happened during manufacturing.

My friend Brennan Parker from YT always thanks me for that recommendation because he says the same thing: It’s a great headphone just to kick back with even though some other people online might tell you otherwise. While the Sennheiser show a more neutral sound profile, they perform more inconsistently with different people. Our goal is to assist music makers in every step, from choosing the right instruments and equipment to understanding how to get the best out of them. In the bass range, the deviation across our five human subjects is relatively broad and deep, exceeding more than 6dB.But I plopped these (rather large) headphones on my ears and every sound came out very crisp and clear. They are perfect for remote recording gigs, especially when you need to run your rig in the same room as the performance. Having said that, at least to my ears, my HD 280 PRO are mostly “flat”, with a very slight bump in the lower frequencies.
