About this deal

Excellent quality all around, highly recommended, not just for stitchers but also for bird lovers, artists, and anyone who loves beautiful art.

I took inspiration from my robin drawings in my sketchbook, layering tiny scraps of fabric and stitching them in place, using recycled cottons and little pieces of calico that I painted to just the right colour. Judy gets the reader to observe birds in their habitats, to look at them in their natural settings, almost in the sense of a field guide.

I made this turquoise bird with a linen type fabric, it frays a little more but still worked just fine. I`m so lucky to have a garden that is always filled with birds, probably because it`s really overgrown and filled with bushes and trees… I always keep the feeders topped up and I added another little bird table this Christmas which I put outside the kitchen window.

Full of joy, hope and life, the Crewel is a beautiful accessory that adds colour, texture, warmth, and interest to interiors. The directions were easy to follow, even with this only being the second time I have done embroidery. She has written articles for various magazines and books, such as Masterworks and Inspirations, as well as having her book Embroidered Landscapes published by Sally Milner.

Multi-talented visual artist Judy Wilford invites you to share in her enduring passions: the arts, the land that surrounds her, and the birds she has observed and embroidered over many years. Her unique embroideries draw on years of personal study and practice in design, drawing, painting, print-making, clay and object making but it is the flexibility and technical variety inherent in textiles, in particular hand embroidery, that always fascinated her. Perfect for needlepoint artists of all skill levels, there is no better time to learn how to create beautiful birds in embroidery. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. I was particularly interested in this book as I love nature, the seasons, garden birds and also love embroidery.I like variegated embroidery threads so the colours change but you don’t have to worry about stopping and starting, very lazy! Two complete projects walk you through every embroidery process, from initial inspiration through to completed artwork design, allowing you to pick up all the skills and techniques needed to complete a hand-stitched, low-relief panel. Eventually, I migrated to surface embroidery, teaching myself with whatever I could get my hands on.
