To make the necklace, I left enough clear nylon string on each end to be able to tie it to a ribbon on each side. I decided to alternate sizes, using 3 small hearts, one large heart, 3 small hearts, one large heart, and so on. We used to make these when Els was smaller for fun, but never thought of packaging them up like this.The original candy necklace was made of small tablets of flavored compressed sugar, shaped like beads and strung together on an elastic string.
For my daughter’s final bake sale of the school year, I had wild ambitions to make fancy cookies, lemon brownies and gooey sprinkled rice Krispy squares. We found 6 different cereals to play with, but if you just wanted say, Froot Loops, I recommend having the kids help sort the colors individually into each bowl. But I don’t want that to be the case, so I’ve been trying to think of fun ways to keep my young kids engaged. I used nylon string and a sewing needle to sew the hearts to each other– very similar to how I made the garland using doily thread.
