About this deal

When I was in my teens I went through a crime phase and read loads of Agatha Christie, then moved on to stuff like Minette Walters and Barbara Vine - this brought memories of those books back to me, even though I can hardly remember any of the titles of those I read. I'm not sure if that was because it reminded me of something specific, or because it reminded me generally of a type of book I used to read when I was younger.

Atmospheric and twisting and ripe for TV adaptation, this debut novel never strays far from convention, but that doesn’t make it any less of a page-turner. It is a cheap and lazy gimmick and the author does nothing to salvage it and can't, in a book where the characterization is so paper thin. The Hook - The blurb - ”What if you realized the terrifying book you were reading was all about you? It’s not that the ending was bad or I had some expectations for it, it’s just that some explanations at the end didn’t seem right to me. strong and compelling portrait of two individuals who are forced to confront unpalatable, even unbearable, truths. She has picked up a book, “The Perfect Stranger,” near the bed and read just enough of it to recognize herself as its heroine. The following day she falls asleep on the beach and her son Nicholas (aged 5), gets into difficulties in a small inflatable. And though she’s never quite bonded with her 25-year-old son the way she’d hoped, he’s doing fine—there are worse things than being an electronics salesman. Confesso que não criei empatia com nenhuma delas, talvez por todas terem demasiados defeitos e esqueletos no armário para que me pudesse rever.
