When I was going to lgb-soc events at uni ten years ago, the first lesbians I met were awesome, empowered feminists doing exciting things like gender-studies PhDs and I naively thought that all lesbians had it made, that they lived free from oppression in a glorious wonderland free from agents of the patriarchy, aka men.Even more baffling was that many I talked to didn’t seem to make the connection that some Lesbians, like myself, are Women of Colour. Poems, letters, diaries, protests, activism – all these pieces of history, and for every new thing I learned, I would uncover more.
