About this deal

Movie quotes kick off each chapter, and the California backdrop is an ideal setting for this uncommonly nuanced summer romance. There are some characters that are pretty aggravating and some storylines are randomly thrown in there for drama. When I heard it was a retelling, I was like "Ouuuuuuuuuuuuuu, me is definitely interested like please sign me uppppppp! A modern-day YA reminiscent of You've Got Mail, Alex, Approximately, is a story of summer, first love, and hidden identity.

Alex becomes Bailey's closest friend, an amazing feat considering she dodges relationships (and confrontation) with the ease of a professional.Bailey and her dad also make many film references throughout the book, most of which I didn’t understand. When Bailey moves to sunny California to live with her dad, who happens to live in the same town as Alex, she decides to track him down. I just wish that there was much done with this great story, i seemed to figure the whole thing out half way through and spent the second half waiting for Bailey to figure it out too.

The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex… Approximately. Strong character development makes this a must form romancereaders: bottled-up Bailey has plenty of secrets in her past, and Porter's family dynamics, plus his Hawaiian background and disintegrating friendship with a troubled fellow surfer, give him depth. The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately.

I don’t have much experience with a die-hard love of films, but I kind of imagine it’s like my die-hard love of books. Mink and Alex aka Bailey and Porter develop a strong relationship even though they live on opposite sides of the country and don't even know each other's real names. A modern-day YA reminiscent of You've Got Mail, Alex, Approximately, is a story of summer, first love, and hidden identity. But the worst bit of all is what Porter says to Bailey about his supposed best friend, who is addicted to maybe the worst drug out there. I felt like the story had so much promise and could have been very interesting, even if it was played out the same way but with different events happening, it could have been improved.
