About this deal

With this type of item you never find out if there are any shortcomings until you need to use one in an emergency, usually in a torrential downpour in a muddy field and as far from home as your ride will take you. You can replace it, but it's not 'removable' in the usual sense, because of the way it has to be pushed through the valve and out of the outside of the rim – it can't be removed while the tyre is seated. However, the biggest change since then is the use of PBF 3D printing as a feasible production solution.

More importantly, from a manufacturing perspective large batches (250+) exhibit better than recommended tolerances and the finishes are consistent and reliable. When testing, I loaded the Micro Piggy with bulky, heavy items - it’ll keep whatever you want in place, and I haven’t managed to work the sticky tape off. I tested their strapless top tube bag way back and found this to be a very convienient system for stopping floppy bag syndrome and portability but now they’ve transfered this technology to what most dyed in the wool cyclists would refer to as a saddle bag. The 76 Projects Micro Piggy is intended for all bike use and adds extra carry options in a very simple way.

The Velcro was easy to open and it took seconds to remove the tool and not much more time to replace it. Seriously though having to remove the contents of your bag to get to the tube or tool that has inevitably worked its way to the bottom is a pain, especially added to the stress of having a puncture or a mechanical.I prefer the first option, and always seat a tyre without sealant in it first to prevent having to deal with the mess that can cause if the tyre doesn't seat easily. I do have to unclog the valves quite frequently, though, so I was very keen to test the 76 Projects valves, and as I squeezed the bottle of sealant I noticed straight away how quickly and easily the sealant flowed through the valve. Luckily for me this didn’t occur so I had to simulate it by accessing the multi tool to make an adjustment while out riding.
