There is a thick rubber coated track on top of the housing, which has a number raised oblong oval shapes on it that help with grip for when you are adjusting the focus. Somewhat surprisingly and unlike the Skymaster that I reviewed, these Celestron Echelon's do not come with a tripod adapter included, however this is only a slight inconvenience as they are inexpensive and easy to get on the web. APM binoculars use high-quality ED glass (FK61) and BAK-4 prisms for high contrast and crisp images across the entire field of view.

Also commonly referred to as "power", magnification is a measure of how much closer an object appears when viewed through the instrument. The APM Binoculars have an IPX-7 rating, which means they are capable of withstanding water entry for up to 30 minutes in 1 meter of water. Since APM binoculars have a large pupil distance, if you want to watch with a pair of spectacles, you only have to fold the rubber eyecups.

One thing that Celestron do not seem to specify is the weight of the 20×70, maybe I missed it or maybe it was deliberately left out. Both barrels should show bright, clear images that appear identical and merge into one image with relaxed eyes. If you happen to wear eyeglasses and wish to observe with them on, eye relief becomes very important. The larger surface area of the lenses means they have the ability to capture more of the available light, but as you increase the magnification, the amount of light that gets through to your eyes decreases. Regarding fuzzy images and poor color, I can't say what would be wrong; I only have experience with the 16x70 MS ED and they perform better to me than my Fujinon 16x70 FMTs which are a benchmark in this size.It does not matter how beautiful a binocular looks or how much it costs, if the optics do not show a clear, sharp and view of the world that is free of false colour then nothing you look at will be enjoyed. Lacquered doors are smooth and seamless, resistant to moisture and staining and very easy to keep clean. This rubber "jacket" on these is really nice and thick and so it unquestionably offers more impact protection than on most bins that I have used.
