About this deal

Impressive about the SB-910 are its prodigious power output and super-fast recycling: 2 seconds at full power as actually measured with Sanyo eneloop cells taken right out of the package as delivered (not charged by me). Professional i-TTL Speedlight compatible with Nikon FX- and DX-format SLRs, and part of the Nikon Creative Lighting System. The Nikon Speedlight SB-910 is an excellent professional flash, a slightly improved version of the SB-900.

Durability: Both the SB-5000 and SB 9/7 series are equally durable, I don't find the SB-5000 less "hardy" feeling, granted I would not want to drop any speed light from any distance, as the survivability of a drop is not likely for either flash. All of the complex lighting calculations are computed for you instantly with consistently accurate results in just about any lighting situation. The short answer is the SB5000 supports off camera use with other compatible wireless receivers that attach to the flash. We still have the flip lock lever to secure the flash in the hot shoe, and the small diffuser and white reflector still pull out from the top of the head the same way. and up until 4months ago I was running around with 2x SB700’s, which replaced my Nikon SB910 and SB900. SB-910 supports fast FP synchronization with exposures up to 1/8000, this is an indispensable thing, when shooting in the afternoon with flash.

The move to RF will have some initial growing pains while we enthusiast and pros adjust and begin making decisions on what future purchases we should make. Last Update 2017: Nikon no longer sells the SB 900 or 910 and is moving to wireless RF flashes for their future remote flash and I for one can not wait for the benefit of the newer technology. This means that the flash is powerful enough, more powerful SB-700, SB-600 and as powerful as Nikon SB-900.

I took apart my SB800, grabbed a Dremel, and sliced off the metal tab that stops the head from just spinning around all the way.Rewind: I use Nikon SB80DX flashes for all my wireless flash needs, with RadioPopper JRX triggers to control their power remotely. To all lovers, I highly recommend SB-700, and for professionals I do not particularly recommend getting an SB-910 if you have an SB-900. Overall the recycle times are noticeably slower than the Nikon’s, but for my property photography work, I can deal with the slower recycles.

Yes, the SB900 has issues with shutting down due to the overheat protection feature, and yes if you turn off the overheat protection feature you may have zero issues…or you may explode your flash!I hope someone out there in an Attorney General's office is reading this, and can give Nikon the hard time it deserves: on page B-7 in the large Nikon SB-910 User's Manual, you'll see that Nikon suggests that you change the batteries when they take more than 10 seconds to recycle (20 seconds with Alkalines), while Nikon's published battery life numbers are made while waiting about three times longer to recycle. Really, the only thing that ever goes wrong with flashes is either you drop them, or you explode them.
