About this deal

Jane Corry worked in a high security male prison and her experiences there have given her an edge for detail. My Husband’s Wife is an exciting and compelling thriller about the ways in our experiences in childhood can affect us all our lives. Maybe, but the sasquatches whom the volcano displaced contributed to the statistics, too, if only out of self-defense.

Rosie’s a bit heavier than she’d like to be, not as glamorous as she’d maybe like, slightly self-conscious about her body and is aware that the physical side of her marriage has dwindled a bit since her two girls were born.

I can't imagine a woman in her position would care one way or another about the people she hurt, wouldn't bother to scheme and work so hard to alienate everyone against poor, pathetic Rosie. Her mother had abandoned her and her Dad when Rosie was a baby, so love was something Rosie cherished very closely indeed. Described by the Daily Mail as ‘The queen of family drama’ Amanda’s novel, 'A Mother's Story' won the coveted Sainsbury's eBook of the year Award and she has had two books selected as World Book Night titles, 'Perfect Daughter' in 2016 and 'The Boy Between' in 2022.This on the day that she has just found out that her mother, who she has never known, has recently died denying her the opportunity to ever meet her. I'm sitting here in disbelief at how one author can make a reader experience a whole gamut of emotions, in just one cleverly crafted novel. Besides Lily and Ed and their less-than-blissful marriage, Corry introduces their neighbors across the hall, Italian immigrant Francesca Cavoletti and her 9-year-old daughter, Carla, who catches Ed’s eye as the perfect artistic subject. There is a dramatic betrayal, a violent death, and we also learn the true reason behind Lily’s obsession with her late brother .

Rosie works on a caravan site with her friend Mel and although the work is not the most testing or inspiring it's enough to have some extra money coming in even though Phil works as a builder with his father. This book is not groundbreaking but it does exactly what it says on the tin, and sometimes thats enough for me.The heartbreak and loss is portrayed well by the author, as well as the evolving development of a sense of identity for Rosie, which she had lost in the preceding years bringing up a family. In my opinion, the characters weren't particularly well developed either; in fact throughout the book the character descriptions and/or behaviours were so inconsistent I had to keep flipping back and forth to try to understand them; I never did get a handle on them. Who can boast a loving mother in law who completely fills the gap of not even having known your own Mum. It’s about getting to know yourself and learning who you can be when everything you had is stripped away. Don't get me wrong, My Husband's Wife painted a realistic picture of a woman scorned, one who had neglected to work at achieving her own dreams and life goals.
