About this deal

Through the parental conrols, I can access the Wifi and add/replace and delete apps to her device without even having to connect it to my PC via a USB. In addition to games, apps and web content, the LeapPad3 also features dual 2 MP cameras, 480p video recording, 4 GB on-board memory and built-in tutorials.

We love being LeapFrog bloggers, the LeapBand has been a huge hit and great at getting everyone moving especially when the after school lethargy hits, and so excitement levels hit the roof when a LeapPad3 arrived a few weeks ago. It’s also had to put up with a lot of sticky fingers poking at its screen, but it’s still lived to tell the tale. My initial reaction when I saw the new Leappad 3 was "wowzers, that screen is tiny" but actually, at 5 inches (diagonally) it isn't any smaller than the screen on the Leappad2 - it just seems a WHOLE lot smaller than the 7 inch screen on the Leappad Ultra and Ultra XDi.The Music icon allows your child to access a selection of fun, educational songs and some classic tunes as well. Recently she has discovered Lula Ladybird (a maths and spatial awareness game) and Secret Agent U which is a game for slightly older children to build basic computer literacy skills with some very basic software, hardware and networking concepts (I admit it, I was won over by the geekiness). Overall, despite the fact that this says it is for up to age 9 this is not great for older children. The LeapPad is designed to be handled, shall we say robustly, by not-so delicate little hands, with its bright green bumper and shatter-proof screen.

I love there that there are such a huge range of games, music and audio books available for children up to 12 years old. A good-quality, durable kids’ tablet that will provide hours of entertainment and is particularly useful for travelling. I love that you can download games wirelessly rather than having to connect it to a computer all the time. When the MomSelect team offered to let us try out the new Leap Frog LeapPad 3 – I checked it out and knew it was a perfect fit for Maggie. For me, a good set of parental controls on your broadband account is a better way of limiting web content. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. The LeapPad itself is quite solid and the build quality is excellent and has survived some small drops and knocks. The tablet is controlled by you the parent, thanks to a four-digit code you pick during the set-up process. Choose from hundreds of fun learning games, eBooks, apps, videos, music and more—designed by learning experts, just for children!

There’s a 2 MP camera at the front and back of the camera, plus the tablet has 480 pixel video recording. The Art Studio is one of Syd’s favourite features on the Leap Pad3 – she has spent a lot of time drawing pictures. The Leappad 3 comes with a mains adapter for charging but we don't use it - I tend to charge it via USB from my computer while I am synching it with the Leapfrog Connect software (so that I can upload new games, take a look at Lara's learning journey and have a sneaky peak at the photos she has taken! LeapFrog says it is “kid-tough and thoroughly drop-tested” and I can vouch for this as my son dropped it on a hard floor a couple of times! The LeapPad3 not only makes learning fun, it also enables children to chat and play with friends who are using nearby devices. They both enjoy taking photos and it is very easy for me to transfer them to my laptop but they aren't particularly high quality so I'm not expecting many keepers!
