About this deal

And as much as I loved meeting all these characters again or for the very first time (especially Leo who has a very special place in my heart), the focus is entirely to be put on Ren and Prince Castian. Together they have a chance to fix everything, but first they need to set aside their intense and complex feelings for each other.

But on nights when there were storms or the sky was not clear, she shaped her shadows into messengers – crows, porpoises, lynxes. I really enjoyed Incendiary, it wasn’t anything ground breaking necessarily but it was enjoyable and I got through it pretty quickly. But with the King’s forces and Renata’s old friends The Whispers on their tail, and Ren slowly falling into The Grey, the pit of her mind where she has kept all of her stolen memories, danger lurks at every turn.To me that’s a testament of a good story, when you can go back repeatedly and garner new information and insights and make deeper connections. Do I think the book coulda been a tad longer to wrap certain things up sure I do but all in all this book is perfection and I will be rereading this duology a lot it has quickly became a comfort read for me.

Renata and Castian they both share the storyline where they were the villains, the spies, the good ones, enemies, friends. Illusionary is the sequel to Incendiary and the second book in Zoraida Córdova’s Hollow Crown duology. In book one Ren is in love with Dez to the point of willingly putting her life in danger getting herself caught to avenge him. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.Leo’s sass and wit combined with Castian’s dry humour and Renata poking fun at them both made for some of the best dialogue in the novel.

As a personal request, I now desperately want a prequel novella featuring the King and the three other pertinent people on that ‘voyage’. Everything about their relationship is just beautiful, and let me tell you that my heart is aching in all the best ways possible for them. In all honesty I’ve not been loving YA recently so it’s a huge compliment from me to say how much I thoroughly enjoyed it! i don't know why, because i was so excited for it after i finished reading incendiary and then more so when i finally got it, and believe me, i tried, but there were things that irked me a lot. With the king’s forces on their heels at every turn, their quest across Puerto Leones and beyond leaves little room for mistakes. Some of the most beautiful moments in the novel were when she grows in self-confidence and begins to believe in the good her power can do. The sequel begins a couple of weeks following the events of Incendiary and I was delighted to re-immerse myself in the rich world of Puerto Leones that the author has created. cassian and ren had hidden feelings for each other since the first chapter, and i've read enough enemies-to-lovers to know that this trope was badly used here. In Zoraida Córdova’s thrilling sequel to Incendiary, Renata embarks on a dangerous journey to bring justice to the kingdom — perfect for fans of Sabaa Tahir and Sarah J. After everything they went through in book one, seeing them having rare moments of fun and safety in each other’s company made me so happy.

Sometimes you find a duology where the first book sets up the world-building and plot so skillfully that the second book can expand upon them, develop the characters, and go in new directions that make it even better than the first. Reluctantly, she agrees to join forces with Prince Castian, her most infuriating and intriguing enemy. The court intrigue of Incendiary did it for me a little more than the runaway adventure story we got in Illusionary and some aspects—especially the ending—could have been more fleshed out. Not that I didn’t like her in the first book, but it’s always beautiful to see a character become a better version of themselves. Cordova has a real strength to her world building and I loved getting to travel around Puerto Leones, visiting different villages, as well as their time spent at sea.
