About this deal
Her darker chin length hair playing contrast to Lahaie's longer blonde locks, her red lipstick playing contrast to her pale skin - she's quite beautiful here and it Rollin's camera doesn't worship her quite as obviously as it does Ms. One of Rollins better known films, Fascination opens with three lovely ladies in a barn, drinking the blood of an ox, which will apparently cure them of an anemic condition from which they all suffer from.
The answer: Fascination, a compelling, highly unorthodox of the blood drinker mythos for which Rollin gained financing through a few adult film quickies.Unfortunately for the gang members, their leader (Jean-Marie Lemaire) takes off with the gold and heads off to a nearby French chateau.
Set in 1905, the story concerns a group of aristocratic women who acquire more epicurean tastes after drinking ox's blood as a cure of anemia. Some staining on the print flickers in and out for a few minutes, but it's not enough to detract from the beauty of the film or the clarity of its presentation. The most interesting extra is a pair of very extended sex scenes with Lahaie, both softcore but treading close to the edge with a handful of shots.
Instead, at the end of the film (77:14), a silent blank screen plays until 78:10 - the BBFC runtime - then credits are shown on a black background, the disc finally ending at 79:34. The color timing and framing are closest to the Kino Lorber disc, here with an obvious uptick in detail, more refined shadowy blacks, and a delicate color scheme that looks very painterly throughout (especially with the HDR10-compatible Dolby Vision on the UHD). When a thief holes up in a remote chateau, taking two beautiful chambermaids' hostage, the arrival of his accomplices and the chateau's aristocratic owners leads to an orgy of violence and ritualistic bloodletting.
