About this deal

It would have been more convincing if we knew what her behaviour had been like in the years between her short affair with Patrick in Colorado and her reinsertion into his life ten years later. That would most likely NEVER happen in real life, and I’m not sure why the teller would even ask for an ID if she wasn’t going to check whose name was on the account. She wasn't so complacent that she thought she could do it without drugs, but she wanted to have a normal birth, even with twins. The story usually starts with what seems like a normal relationship, but it quickly becomes a tangled web of back-stabbing (literally and figuratively) and lies. Shari Lapena has done it again – another cracking domestic thriller, and trust me, ‘the end’ will leave you clamouring for more.

Yet the couple stand together in the face of the volcano, unaware that there is only one thing Erica can do and that’s up her game. And as she gradually uncovers his lies, she must ask herself not only whether her husband is a cold-hearted killer, but also whether she and her babies might be his next victims! As for Stephanie, I really do not know what to think, but her actions towards the end seemed entirely out of character. if you’re one of the many people who counts [ And Then There Were None] among their favorite books, you will love An Unwanted Guest. Her story telling is so strong and so are her characters that I just expect that to carry through till the end but it just seems to lose a little power going into the ending. And when the police start digging, Stephanie’s trust in her husband begins to falter and Patrick is primed to lose everything he loves.

BUT, for ME, the BEST Psychological Suspense books are those which manage to surprise with characters who stay true to WHO they are, and those which remain plausible. All Patrick has to do is tap into that huge inheritance that Stephanie has just received and Erica won’t tell the police in Colorado that ten years ago he murdered his first wife.

Stephanie supports her husband totally but when Erica and the police start probing, Stephanie's trust in her husband begins to falter and doubts in their relationship begin to crop up.

She relaxes for a moment, letting her exhausted body sink into the cushions, her head heavy against the pillows. It consists of short, concise sentences that do not possess much in the way of literary flair, but they have a clever way of capturing the reader’s attention and edging the story along. I've never hated an antagonist more than Erica, and grew more and more frustrated as she tried to blackmail more and more not-so-innocent people she encountered through the years. Luckily, the ending did pick up a little in the last 80 pages or so and I think the ending was the best part of the book (even though I did predict one of the plot twists, but there were other twists I didn’t see coming) but overall I have very meh feelings toward this one. I raced through The End of Her, as I was keen to see what would eventuate on each new chapter and paragraph. The author of the global success The Couple Next Door, graces her readers with a tale of truth, lies, choices, mistakes, accusations, estrangement, life stresses and strains.
