About this deal

Can a Floor Sander Drum be used with a fine grain or would this be too heavy handed and strip the finish?

Mirka Mirlon pads are recomended when decorating for the removal of raised grain on timber after an initial coating has been applied, and recommended for denibbing between subsequent coats. It looks expensive and is dearer than when I bought mine on special at Screwfix, but it gives you a slightly cushioned velcro pad sized to the sheets (choice of two sizes) and a connection for a vacuum cleaner hose. The Finishing Pad should also be used when you have applied your last coat of finish to finish the job off feeling extra smooth. Because you are roughing up the surface as well it’ll improve the adhesion of any further coats too. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It really depends of what type of de-nibbing you're doing, if it's specks of dust trapped in Osmo or Danish Oil or a wiping varnish then that's all you need.

Personally I like to use 400 grit, but to be honest there’s really not much in it so in my opinion it's not worth worrying about, but I wouldn't go lower than 240 grit or higher than 600. Also as the instructions on the tin say to sand the bare wood to 120 grit so I would need to use the same grit between coats and then like 600 grit after the final coat? uk/products/rupes-ibrid-de-nibbing-discs 5463230054556 Rupes Ibrid De-Nibbing Discs 35mm (Pack of 10) 3.Also once you’ve finished denibbing, give the area a wipe over with a Manns Microfibre Cloth as well. If you’ve used a finish that seals the wood like varnish, lacquer, shellac or polyurethane for example, I’d recommend spraying on a bit of water both to the project and to the abrasive paper and wet sanding – this forms a slurry on the surface and helps keep things smooth and removes any particles a little easier. Says he currently none too patiently waiting for oil to dry so that I can get another coat on today.

I like the finest of the paint sanding sponges as they'll handle eased edges, curves and flat surfaces. Most purchases from business sellers are protected by the Consumer Contract Regulations 2013 which give you the right to cancel the purchase within 14 days after the day you receive the item.Mirka Mirlon denibbing pads are especially designed for sanding surfaces prior to the application of finishing coats, primers or lacquers. If you just applying a liquid or solid wax, or oil, that doesnt raise the grain so does not need denibbing.

Now you can apply your next coat of finish in the same way as you did before, wait for it to full dry again. Our premium cleaning and restoration products meet the highest professional demands yet are packaged and designed to remain easy-to-use for everyone. You don't need to go over the same area any more than once or twice, it should feel smooth after one or two light passes. I don't know why I am answering a thread on Finishing, my Finishing usually leaves a lot to be desired! I have also been told that soft sanding pads are good as well I presume these are the same as the Abranet pads?
