About this deal

Both a fun story that most young children will enjoy for its irreverence, and also a sly critique on contemporary literacy. Gone is the tale of a rabbit trying to work out if any of his animal friends have remembered his birthday and instead we get an epic battle of bunny versus the animal kingdom. They can be exposed to Battle Bunny and Birthday Bunny and then create their own version with whatever twist they wish.

This is one of those rare occasions when the story takes second place to a bold and entertaining idea. He burst onto the scene a couple years ago with picture books that worked to upset the standard expectations. All this begs the question: Is this book good in its own right or is this just a case of cleverness for cleverness’s sake? Kids will revel in the dual nature of this book and delight in Alex's brash embellishments to the original (and pretty boring) "birthday surprise" plot. So in this way, Battle Bunny is a wonderful book to use to talk to students about reading strategies.Discover what happens when a young imagination armed only with an HB pencil is pitted against its nemesis, an insipid picture book.

The dynamic duo of Jon Scieszka and Mac Barnett never fails to put on a great show that is sure to entertain! While you're at it, be sure to check out the fun "Battle Bunny" book trailer at http://mybirthdaybunny. Make sure this book is only opened when the reader is located in a place where sudden outbursts of uncontrollable laughter are more appropriate. Definitely one for reluctant readers who might like to see that books are not always what they are seen as being.

Under Alex’s hand sentences are reworded, illustrations are updated, and the new plot concerns a bunny supervillain bent on world destruction.

In this hilarious send-up of over-sweetened, "fuzzy wuzzy" children's books, mayhem and side-splitting chaos rule the day. this is a wonderful idea: take a sappy book with a trite story and a heartwarming message and MAKE IT SO MUCH BETTER BY ADDING WEAPONS AND ESSPLOSIONS! I would recommend this book to children ages five and up since the writing style might confuse some children. The book has a well-worn look to it, with roughed up corners (or at least simulated pictures of roughed up corners).I so want to get this for my little great-nephew, but am unsure when it would be age-appropriate for him, as it clearly requires a kid old enough to get the joke. The story of ‘Battle Bunny’ is a far more explosive affair, a perversion of the original text as Bunny no longer wants to be a friend, but the master of all animal kind. The authors and illustrator should also be praised for producing such a well-made book – it really does feel like a classic Ladybird style story that has been written on.
