That eases a little in DTS TruSurround mode, but no setting makes up for the overall lack of weight. While the TV's interface is easy to navigate a major issue you'll notice out of the gate is that some key streaming apps are missing. The TV’s dual-core processor does an excellent job of keeping things responsive and there are few menus in which to get lost. The higher-spec Samsung TU8000 is better for both sound and picture and, while we haven’t tested it at the 43in size, it’s currently available for much less than the cost of this Toshiba plus a budget soundbar. TVs will only display the channels that can be detected through an aerial during the installation process.Generally, this won't be an issue but if you plan to use a soundbar you might find it will get in the way of the screen unless you can elevate your TV a little more – or simply wall-mount it. Toshiba’s TRU Picture technology provides smooth, more detailed viewing, up-scaled to the highest resolution whatever your content. The sound is also worth mentioning the reviews state it's probably the worst feature of the TV but I though it would be fine for bedroom use but I didn't expect it to be quite so bad. The Tru HDR mode on the Toshiba adds an HDR effect to SDR content but, while there’s a good case for using it on Full HD material, it’s best switched off at SD level.

The audio gets peaky quickly as if the equipment is being pushed far too hard and it comes across harsh and tinny in the manner of a bad Bluetooth speaker. There's Dolby Atmos – as ever we'd recommend pairing the TV up with one of the best soundbars for even better audio – and built-in Freeview Play, 4K HDR, three HDMI 2.

While we've had no issues the set can be rocked in place a bit too easily leaving us worried it might come loose from the base. If you are aware of a number of channels that are not being received it is likely that the aerial is not receiving strong enough signals to allow reception of these channels.
For audio devices you should use the Audio Link option via the following menu options on the TV: System > Sound Menu. While you won’t be blown away by the audio that the UK31 can produce, the sound quality of its 20W speaker system is more than enough to get the job done for those on a tight budget.Unfortunately, quite a few streaming services are missing from this TV's OS – so unless you have a Fire TV Stick or Chromecast you're not going to be able to watch all of them.
