What really impressed me about the Elite Manual was the way the pages that followed were structured. With a few units (including a Character on each side), a gaming mat to play on, dice, range rulers and a Recruit Manual to guide you through the basics of the game, you can’t go far wrong.

The Elite Edition of the game is aimed at giving players a go at playing with more varied units, and as you would expect comes with a few new models to play with.

Honestly, for a box designed to be a starter set that is probably a good thing as you want people jumping in as quickly as possible.

On more than one occasion, my wife remarked that she felt overwhelmed just looking at the stat-lines of the units on the placard, which was something I was a bit oblivious to having played similar games for a while. I recently started a necron army and already had 20 worriers and wanted to buster the ranks so I recommend going half's with a friend who wanted to get into warhammer and he's really chuffed with the modles.

After playing through all six missions with a friend or family member, you can even try swapping sides to see if you can do better while reinforcing what you’ve learned. I haven’t played about 7 years and yet after assembling the models I was able to work my way through the missions in the book, re-learning the game as I went. This set also replaces the Lieutenant and Royal Warden with a Space Marine Captain and Necron Overlord, giving both sides a little bit more hitting power.

A hobbyist, player, and collector of miniatures and games, Adam's current obsession are his Death Armies for Age of Sigmar, his Blood Angels and Tyranids for 40k, and his ever growing Arkham Horror: The Card Game Collection. With composing books for a lifestyle game such as Warhammer it’s a good idea to be mindful that it somebody with no idea whatsoever of what Warhammer is could pick this book up for the first time. Benjamin Porter lives in Glasgow, Scotland with his wife, baby son, a cat that thinks it's a god, and a hyperactive tortoise. You could use the dice, it’s very easy to forget they’re there to track wounds and end up scooping them up to make a big attack roll.Enter the thrilling world of tabletop gaming in the 41st Millennium with the Elite Edition – a set designed to introduce you to the Warhammer 40,000 hobby. With the possible exception of the bikes (which are still surprisingly easy to build), there is also very little mould line cleanup required.

The set comes with a transfer sheet for the more iconic Space Marine chapters – Space Marines, Dark Angels, Blood Angels and Space Wolves – which is a standard now for all Space Marine kits.I was able to repair it easily enough but it did make me question whether these are the best models for a beginner to be having a go at.
