When Maggie and Laurent take a much needed vacation in Saint-Tropez they get much more than they bargained for as Laurent's criminal past reappears to remind them that past deeds are never forgotten for long. I recently had the delight of reading and reviewing ‘Murder Of The Bride’ by Faith Martin, which is the previous book in the series featuring DI Hilary Greene, and I absolutely loved it. An attractive woman in her forties, Hillary Greene is a police officer of many years’ experience, and came up through the ranks. During the course of the first three books, the regular crew of the Thames Valley force have become well established. The narrator was great, no silly whiney voices for different characters but you could tell the difference when someone else spoke.

The murder of a local, campaigning to get into government, supplies Hillary and her Team with a plethora of suspects and just as many dead ends. She’s puzzled about why he transferred from the Met and when something unplanned happens on a drug raid she is even more suspicious of him and decides to take a deeper look at his past. In addition to that she has a new superior officer in the station who seems to have made an odd career move. She’s such a good detective with an inbuilt instinct for sniffing out truth and lies and never tries to label a suspect guilty unless she has the solid evidence. As Siobhán begins to dig for a motive among the gnarled roots of the victim's family tree, she will need to stay two steps ahead of the killer or end up with more than one foot in the grave.

Her team are a mixed bunch from Janine who is having a relationship with the Hillary superior to Frank who can’t really be relied on but has a good set of “nouses” to keep him informed.

I am really hoping to read or rather listen to more from this author as this audiobook definitely entertained and has me intrigued to listen to more. Hillary is a dedicated DI and is still dealing with the fallout from a bad marriage to a bent copper who died leaving Hillary with his mess to clear up. All of this makes her one of the best homicide DI’s; however, an unfortunate marriage to a bent cop has blighted her chances of promotion. She has a finger in many pies but also has to deal with a brother, Marcus, who seems to be making his cash in less than honorable ways. DI Greene is popular with her team and she is more than willing to muck in and do her fair share of the day to day work.
