About this deal

One Second is Enough” has Steve Howe shredding away in glory, and at key points I think the track even invokes some memories of “Tempus Fugit” off of Drama. The title track comes next, and it’s the longest song they’ve written since “Mind Drive” and “That, That Is” in the mid-90s. The legacy of Yes surely lives on, and 'Mirror to the Sky' is a good album that aims to point out exactly this! None of this is a negative evaluation, because even lesser tracks on a Yes album are better than anything you will hear elsewhere. Luminosity” has a slow but impactful opening, featuring pizzicato strings and long, languid guitar lines.

For Yes, that “next thing” is a collection of high energy, intricate, lush and layered new studio songs for an album which adds to the band’s much heralded legacy, while charting a path to exciting future times ahead. If I were the producer on this Yes album, or I could be pulling rank on them at the record company, I would have replaced “All Connected” with “Unknown Place,” which is truly a killer track. It's not completely the Yes of the past, but there are still some spiritual connections with some eras of the band. In October 2021, the Yes line-up of guitarist Steve Howe, drummer Alan White, keyboardist Geoff Downes, lead vocalist Jon Davison, and bassist Billy Sherwood, with Jay Schellen guesting on percussion, released The Quest. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Well, that depends in which type of Yes fan you are: a lover of the breakthrough The Yes Album, which defined the group’s sound and positioned the group high in the progosphere, or maybe your preference is the New Wave-influenced Tormato?

An early title to "Magic Potion" was "It's a Good Day to Be Had by All", but Howe changed it as it sounded too similar to "It Will Be a Good Day" from The Ladder (1999). We kept the continuity in the approach we established on The Quest, but we haven’t repeated ourselves. The orchestra plays a great role, one that feels like that's exactly where it belongs and doing exactly what it ought to be doing, and they get their chance to carry the ideas, too. Just like the good old days, when there was no demand on your time—just a copy of The Yes Album or Fragile or Close to the Edge on the turntable. Davison’s voice is, as elsewhere on this album, too soft, but the instrumental parts are pretty good.Is it a retread of The Quest, which on the surface felt like a bit of a tribute act to past glories? There is some nice piano from Geoff later on in this piece and it would have been good to hear more solo keyboard fills. Its initial title was "Luminous", but it was subsequently changed after Howe, Davison, and Sherwood expanded on the initial arrangement that they had worked out and made it what Howe described as "a bigger tune".

Yes recorded the album in 2022, with Sherwood and Schellen recording their respective parts in California. I really like the entire new album, and hail Steve Howe as one of the legendary aesthetes of progressive rock.Philosophical conundrums aside, I haven’t been shy about dragging big-name acts through the mud when they put out a bad record. Obviously with no original members left in the band, many like to argue to what extent this band could really can itself Yes, but such debates are too often, if not always, counterproductive, pointless, and utterly crass. I was not particularly impressed with the first single, and the fact that this is another of those stupid disc-and-a-half money-grab releases also didn’t do much to give me hope. Goeff Downs n`est pas aussi virtuose que Rick Wakeman , cela nous le savons depuis des lustres , mais assure aussi je trouve ( écoutez le live at Mesa Art Center : Fragile et Close to the Edge ). When the ripples of the water had settled, Dean said that "the lake became a perfect mirror to a very brilliant night sky", an experience that Rogers said was like being in space.

Despite my earlier remarks about non-equal footing, this track does in fact achieve entrance into the Yes pantheon.Usually I listen to music in my car (where I can turn it up as loud as I like) or through ear buds (during daily exercise). And Bassist Billy Sherwood was a longtime friend of Squire’s who has collaborated with the band since the mid-90s. surround sound, Dolby Atmos, Hi Res 96k/24bit stereo mixes and instrumental mixes of all album tracks.
