Some claim Sumption to be the brightest man in the whole of the United Kingdom, and this is possibly proved to be the case in his short book ‘Trials of the State’, which is based upon the content of his ‘Reith Lectures’ for the BBC. It is well written, readable and wholly absorbing…My only regret is that this book of letters was not available to me when I was a student. If they haven’t, then what does the state of conversation indicate at the moment about how our law-makers might resolve this issue?This is not only for the benefit of the student, but also on behalf of the profession, and the clients who will be served by that future lawyer. Really helpful and useful book actually, very factual therefore hard to read at times yet it allowed me to see whether a law degree was right for me or not and it has actually convinced me along with other things that law is something that I want to venture into.
