It's a good film, filled with entertaining action beats, dazzling effects, and a few enjoyable characters. There are many instances of the immersive experience, when the Tyrannosaur crashes through the roof of the jeep, the ‘raptors as they hunt Muldoon, the wind and rain as Nedry hooks up the winch – all these place you firmly in the centre. It doesn't even mention (or dispel) the rumor that Jeff Goldblum was originally a part of this production, but hurt his leg early on and was forced to quit.

But there is also a fair chunk of fawning, powder-puff back-slapping though, that really sticks in the throat. Warn the street that you're having dinosaurs round for the evening because the depth that accompanies them is not only suddenly resounding in knee-jerk shock-stingers, but awesomely sustained throughout some of the most emphatic set-pieces this side of LOTR. Grant soon discovers that his hosts are not what they seem, and the island's native inhabitants are smarter and more brutal than he ever imagined. Black levels are strong and push the frame further than it has been before, the first Tyrannosaur attack, or Nedry’s escape showcase some excellent depth with shadow detail when needed.This is followed by another very brief promo segment and on-set footage from a handheld camera of Spielberg directing the movie. The mix is immersive, aggressive and incredibly balanced, especially considering its age and the era the film was produced.

The 'Jurassic Park' films have been released a few times on other available home video formats, and Universal has been kind enough to port over the same set of supplements. The action-packed adventures find man up against prehistoric predators in the ultimate battle for survival. The digital and practical effects are also talked about extensively, often closely looking at specific action sequences, while several interviews mention the great deal of fun everyone had. All three movies sound wonderfully rich and dynamic and boast the sort of wraparound immersion that you long for with this type of genre. Personally, I would have preferred this to have been just one long feature, but I can see why they've gone down this road.

Nevertheless, the transfer does offer plenty of nicely detailed sequences in daylight, with sharp, clean lines and great visibility of background info.
