About this deal

Some very interesting and offbeat interviews with less celebrated cricketers such as Simon Kerrigan and Alan Wells but also Ashley Giles, Alec Stewart and Tuffers. To sum it up, this is a life story, told through cricket with little bits of family and maccabees interspersed. I was often surprised and moved by his passionate understanding of cricket as comfort, consolation and rock and roll remedy. So many of us want to be a rockstar, date a rockstar and have famous friends on their phone and Felix has had all that.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The moments in his life, bookended with interviews from players, are written about with care, and the love for his family, including his mother, shines throughout. I like the Maccabees and I really like Tailenders (when it’s not being Jimmy Anderson propaganda) and I love cricket. A strange mix that combines the life story of a rock star with important moments in cricket from the last 30 years. But, in short, it's a stunning read that for any reader will bring back memories of your own life whilst Felix reflects poignantly on his own life. The maccabees stuff was fantastic, I loved it - a great insight but it didn't appear until halfway through. If you're aiming for an in-depth analysis of the inner workings of the higher echelons of English cricket, this might not be for you.

I knew from the introduction that this would go straight into my list of favourite books, driven in part by my pre-existing bias based on my love for The Maccabees. And, through the prism of her extraordinary experiences, she offers vital insights into the nature of race, class, feminism, sexuality and ageing in modern Britain. With his infectious passion for the sport and vivid observations, you don't have to like cricket to love this. Last Chance Texaco is the first-ever no-holds-barred account of the life of two-time Grammy Award-winner Rickie Lee Jones, in her own words. And if you are a cricket fan (especially an England cricket fan) you will be able to relate to so much of what is said - the lows and, indeed, the highs. His passion for the game is at the fore on the BBC ‘s number one cricket podcast and 5Live show, Tailenders, which he co-presents with Greg James and Jimmy Anderson.

In 2019, Bernardine Evaristo became the first black woman to win the Booker Prize since its inception fifty years earlier – a revolutionary landmark for Britain. If you know cricket at all, or even better if you like cricket - fantastic, as it's the primary topic. An autobiography of Felix White that features interviews with cricketers who featured in games or just moments that impacted his life. The book covers White’s life thus far, intertwining his personal experiences - losing his mum to MS as a teen - with music and with cricket, chronicling the ups and downs of the England men’s team, and including interviews with those who’ve played the game such as Mike Atherton, Phil Tufnell and Chris Lewis. It's in such a tender way that Felix tells his story of loss - so perceptively intertwined are the passions that nourish him and the lovely, loopy game that he can't look away from. The novelist Ann Quin says she appears to be a ‘singular girl, singular and single’ but questions the use she makes of her freedom. The Pop artist Pauline Boty reveals she married ‘the first man I could talk very freely to’ ten days after meeting him. I also enjoyed the interviews he did with former test players from across many cricket playing nations. Felix White's beautifully, elegantly and passionately written book reminds me why I love cricket so much.
