About this deal

The only thing I did differently and made it a little easier for a novice like me was to put the molded chocolate on a warm pan for a monte before putting these together. You want to make sure you're using good quality chocolate that has cocoa butter in it and not too many other ingredients or the chocolate isn't going to melt right. Pour steaming hot milk over the top and watch the chocolate melt away and release those marshmallows into your milk. I've been eyeing these up as gifts for a while now and they went down a treat with everyone over Christmas.

A hot chocolate bomb is a hollow ball of chocolate filled with hot cocoa powder and mini marshmallows. Roasted, the beans are left to cool before being added to our custom air tight coffee bags to lock in the freshness of the bean. Amanda Rettke is the creator of I Am Baker, and the bestselling author of Surprise Inside Cakes: Amazing Cakes for Every Occasion – With a Little Something Extra Inside. Set it down and add 1 tablespoon of cocoa mix and 1-2 teaspoons of marshmallows and/or other fillings. To obtain the most accurate representation of the nutritional information in any given recipe, you should calculate the nutritional information with the actual ingredients used in your recipe. Put the hot chocolate bombe in a mug, slowly pour over steaming hot milk, and watch as the chocolate melts to uncover the mini marshmallows hiding within.

Drop into a mug of piping hot milk (or alternatively, pour hot milk over the bomb), stir, and indulge in a rich cup of hot cocoa. Once the chocolate softens and the cocoa mix and marshmallows are released, stir well until the chocolate dissolves. If needed use the paintbrush to brush extra chocolate around the line so it is wet when you roll the balls. Using a pastry brush, brush the chocolate over the inside of the moulds until they’re all covered – don’t worry about being too precise. Once set, carefully remove from the mould by peeling back one side and get ready to assemble by getting your hot chocolate and marshmallows.Gold powder (optional)-You can also coat your silicone mold with gold powder for a super festive treat. This year we thought we would put our spin on the classic Hot Cocoa Bombs recipe by adding a little something special to bump up the chocolate flavor. I’ve made them like this with a few extra tweaks to keep them a success (extra quality chocolate, freezing, wearing gloves) without having to temper. These glossy Hot Chocolate Bombs are filled with cocoa mix and mini marshmallows for a rich, memorable cold-weather beverage!

Make sure that the mold is fully coated in chocolate to have a sturdy hot chocolate bomb- Enough chocolate is key to keep these hot chocolate bombs intact when you fill them up. Once the edges are sealed, warm a spoon under hot water and gently press the back of it along the edges to make them perfectly flat. Then stir with a spatula, moving the chocolate from the outside edges, to the center to evenly heat it.Wrap these hot chocolate balls with marshmallows inside individually in cellophane bags to give as gifts. This helps to “temper” the chocolate so that it stays shiny, and does not turn cloudy, after it has dried.
