About this deal

He added that the album was "heavy, melodic and packed full of huge choruses: radio-friendly doesn’t have to be used in the pejorative sense and it's certainly more considered and mature than their debut. Since the deluxe reissue is only a two-CD set (expanded album on CD 1 and demos and remixes on CD 2) they really should have made it consistent with the new album deluxe sets and the Send Away The Tigers reissue. The band privileged long guitar riffs and the drums feel more present and loud in the final mix of the album.

pag-booklet featuring lirycs track by track and poster with lyrics in japanese and title to absolute tracks content in this album. We haven’t always been the most complementary about this album in the past, but with hindsight it was a strange and curious record with many fan’s favourites on it. Have to (partially) disagree with hagrstom's review about the remastering: it is indeed a tad hot, but what we should expect from an alternative rock record? Had this on cd for many years and decided to get the vinyl eventually as I recently did with the Holy Bible. At five and a half minutes it is the longest song on the album, but pans out impressively, with spiky guitars, prominent drums, and the lyric "Rock and Roll has a conscience", presumably as a reference to their own body of work. For the deluxe reissue coming in June, Wire promised that fans would enjoy a deep-dive into the treasure trove of B-sides and never-heard-before demos. When I found that demo and played it to James, he was shocked as well at how it fitted in with our later post-punk ideas. The reissue ends with more remixes of ‘Roses in the Hospital’ then anyone really needs but omits the seven-inch version of that same single. The 1993 album features the singles ‘From Despair To Where’, ‘La Tristesse Durera (Scream to a Sigh)’ and ‘Roses in the Hospital’. We’ve been learning the songs over the last few weeks and we might play some of them at festivals,” Wire told NME.

Gold Against the Soul was given a deluxe re-issue in 2020 with each track remastered, complete with a 120-page A4 book of photos taken by Mitch Ikeda and scans of original lyric sheets plus previously unreleased demos. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. For some reason, the demos are labelled as ‘remastered’ which makes no sense, since these are previously unreleased.

The album displayed a variety of styles; "Roses in the Hospital" tapped into a "stadium funk-rock" style, [12] while "From Despair to Where" incorporated a quiet-loud dynamic; "follow[ing] the grunge template" in the words of Rob Jovanocic. The remastered vinyl is the original album but comes with a download code to the extra tracks on CD 1 (ie the B-sides) but not, it seems, the music on CD 2. There’s an amazing batch of demos that are quite revealing – some of them are really confused versions of what ended up on the album. An enjoyable listen and an improvement over the CD that I've been playing for the best part of 30 years. In March 2020, following several anniversary re-releases of old albums in previous years, the Manics announced a deluxe reissue of Gold Against the Soul for release on 12 June 2020. I take the point re: notes etc but I can understand why the group would want to make a book of just these pictures, given that they were taken during a relatively happy time for them, their last good times as a 4-piece.
