While we did have a pretty good time playing Dead Men Tell No Tales, it was noticeable right away that this game felt very similar to other co-op board games we’ve played. My game choices tend to rely on an aggregate of data and Board Game Quest and Rahdo tend to be my go tos.

If a player chooses not to use all of his or her action points, they are transferred to the next player. The Kraken models are beautifully detailed and incredible quality, even unpainted, they have a great table presence.

If ever there aren’t any pirates remaining to choose from, the crew is too exhausted to continue and fails. Unfortunately, it seems not a lot of effort went into imagining the female figurines, whose heaving bosoms, skinny waists and gravity-defying bottoms are embarrassingly cliched, nay insulting, for 2022. There are two types of wooden pieces in this game, the player’s wooden meeples which look like pirates, and the deck hands which are adorable little skulls. Dead Men Tell No Tales definitely has a unique theme as it is one of the only pirate games that is also cooperative. We played on the easy and normal difficulties and it was always a tense game where every decision could mean failure so no decisions is ever without consequence. I dig the dice exploding rooms mechanic but I’ve read a lot that it’s impossible to ever actually win this game.
