Coraline is a dark tale of a young girl fed up in a new home, with parents too busy to pay her any attention. We reviewed the Region free US Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Coraline on a Panasonic TX-65HZ1000B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DP-UB450 Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player.

However, the story goes full blown horror (for younger viewers) in the latter half, bringing in some seriously creepy imagery and traumatic events that get softened just a bit by the children’s nature of the film. from the somewhat labored storytelling, keeping total focus on the majestic needlework visuals Selick portions out by the shovelful. A 36-minute making-of documentary and two extras focused on the work of the Laika animation studio boast copious behind-the-scenes footage that represents a celebration of the arduous process of stop-motion animation. Our own Ian McShane, Jennifer Saunders, and Dawn French make up the rest of the eclectic tenants and their respective other selves, whose warnings go unheeded but whose help remains invaluable.

The boy’s name is short for “Wyborne” which is a pretty cruel name as even our protagonist quickly jokes. Laika hadn’t perfected their Stop Motion cloning in CGI form, so some items moved like traditional stop motion tech, and others seemed to move too smoothly at times) and the fact that it all felt like Tim Burton if Tim Burton wasn’t addicted to making everything gothic in his visual designs. The caveat here is that while the alternate universe is quite fun and zany, there's a sinister and evil entity lurking in the shadows that causes Coraline to come to terms with her lot in life and make amends with her family.The two have a good repoir here and there isn’t much in the way of dead air even if some of what is covered here is also covered in some of the other supplements.
