About this deal

Gordie also tells how after he'd become successful he caught a glimpse of Ace Merrill in their hometown. It is a rather fast read and I wish I wouldn't have paid the amount that I did, but it was a good book. The small town of Castle Rock is tuning in to the news of a young boy who has gone missing from a nearby town. Certainly the King version is much more vulgar and up front, but the wonder of youth and the harsh reality of time is there, in the film.

This time around I loved this book the only thing stopping it from being a 5 star read is that its in my opinion too short. This is the well-known story of four kids going on a hike to find the dead body of a boy somewhere along a railway track. Teddy himself becomes enraged with Milo and tries to climb the fence to attack him but he's dragged off by his friends.

Thoughts: By far and away my biggest issue with this novella was that I didn't care for the characters. The boys grow tired with their hike but press on, at one point walking through a powerful thunderstorm. When they finally find the spot where the body lies, a gang of bullies led by John "Ace" Merrill arrive just after they do. I've read other Stephen King short stories and I must confess: he has a way with words and storytelling.Halliburton, the town truant officer, was always showing up at Chris's house, driving his old black Chevrolet with the NO RIDERS sticker in the corner of the windshield. Aunt Evvie appears again in a flashback narrative told from the perspective of her niece Polly, one of the major characters in the story. In high school I found my tribe but I still have fond memories of my preteen "girl gang", even if I'm no longer friends with them. So, obviously after reading Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption and realizing that it was just as good as the movie, I was pretty excited for The Body as well.

It was wholly morbid at times and an intricate exploration into one’s own inner monsters and mortality itself. the body Along the way, the boys trespass at the town dump and are chased by Chopper, the dump custodian Milo Pressman's dog. King is the recipient of The Sunday Times Award for Literary Excellence 2022, the 2020 Audio Publishers Association Lifetime Achievement Award, the 2018 PEN America Literary Service Award, the 2014 National Medal of Arts, and the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters. The Body is special, though, because it is so of summer, and what it means to kids: King’s kid characters here are spot-on, and he inhabits the spirit of childhood a’la Ray Bradbury.

Stephen King’s wonderful 1982 novella, which was transformed into the classic 1986 film, Stand By Me, four young boys to come of age over a weekend together. No need to be wary, for there is little gore, but enough language that some readers may want to look elsewhere. The rest of the gang is composed of Vern's older brother Billy, Charlie Hogan, Chris' older brother Richard "Eyeball" Chambers, Norman "Fuzzy" Bracowicz, Jack "Jackie" Mudgett, and Vince Desjardins. Gordie Lachance and his three friends set off along the railway tracks on a quest, determined to become famous by officially finding the boy's body.
