About this deal

Unfortunately, it’s only designed to be used on aps-c cameras, as such, that specification is a little less exciting than it would be if it was a full frame lens. which shows an interleaved grid pattern, similar to the fresnel that classic manual focus SLR users have seen. With the 7artisans a raw file will tend to be less contrasty compared to a modern Fujinon, but also very well balanced in colorcast. While in fact the ISO would be half, a FF camera produces an image with same noise at double the ISO due to the larger sensor (all other things being equal – e.

There’s a bit of vignetting but this was shot with a fairly high-contrast tone curve so this image will have exaggerated it. It hits a sweet spot between being very creamy, and presenting some imperfections such as semi-harsh edges on the out of focus specular highlights.which gave me a bit of a benchmark for just how capable these little Sony a5100 cameras can be when it comes to resolving what a lens is capable of. Combined with the slightly lower resolution, to my mind that amounts to a really nice gentle rendering. I used my blower and the bigger fibres were blown away but there are still particles on the lens, I tried a lens cloth and none of them came off. The focus ring turns very smoothly to about 130 degrees, so that it is just precise enough to successfully focus at f/1. At the first week of use I had some excess oil/grease working itself out from under the aperture ring and onto the barrel, which I guess is good for weather sealing, but other than that is annoying as hell!

It’s not the sharpest lens I’ve ever shot, far from it, but it is by far the sharpest fast aperture lens that I’ve ever shot in this segment. When I started shooting them side-by-side I did find that there were some slight differences but that was all about field of view and not about image quality. it is sorta useful but you will need to stop down to f2 to get best from both worlds in terms of Bokeh and middle sharpness. Funnily enough, despite it being of a very different optical design, the m-mount voigtlander 35mm 1. It’s a consistent barrel distortion that is pretty easy to correct, but I usually don’t mess with it as it’s not bad enough to cause any distractions in most images. A point that one is bound to hear about is manual focus lenses aren’t suitable for action shots or even the ubiquitous street shots, I will simply beg to differ and in all honestly – say that this is purely a case of user ability and patience in learning how to use the system properly.

I have no accurate measuring tool, but the exposure at set ISO values is EXACTLY the same when shooting the Mitakon at f/0.

Wich in my opinion could be useful if you are framing your subject in the center or if you are shooting portraits. This can also be seen in the fact that it uses a standard 52 mm filter thread just like Fujifilms own 35mm f/1. I after some use I recently chose to sell it, the crazy and unpredictable field curvature made some shots hard to like. I agree that 7Artisans lenses are well build, I own their 12mm lens, and so far its always paired with my Sony a6600.

Although, as Otto mentioned, the cost of great vintage glass is even more economical in some cases and should not be overlooked. And having to reference a Leica lens in regards to build quality makes it abundantly clear just how well built this 7artisans 35mm f0. I recently purchased this lens online from a local supplier, and upon opening the box, I noticed the lens was covered in 4-5 mm fibers. With this lens, the rear element was completely covered with some strange speckled oil that took me a while to get off. You can alway punch in contrast in post, but its damn hard to pull contrast from the image if the optics added that at the time of recording. On the other hand if you don’t mind all those drawbacks and just need something to play with I cant stress enough how cool this lens is and if you can live with it than you will be more than happy. on Micro Four Thirds, it's great to have a cheaper manual option that performs well on that format outside of the ubiquitous adapted old 50mm lenses that are too long for everyday use - it really exceeded my expectations. It’s no secret that coronavirus keeps the world in an iron grip, and as a doctor obviously my main focus is on my clinic during these busy times. But I have to say again that the flaring that this lens produces is absolutely stunning and can be used to great effect. Using this lens was an entirely new photographic experience for me - at least it feels that way, in the age of “auto-everything”.
