About this deal

Ideal Binoculars for Astronomy - Award winning quality porro prism 7x50 binoculars offering an exceptional combination of optical performance, ergonomical design features and value. At home, I also like to use my 7x50 in combination with either a giant high powered binocular or my telescope that I have set up on the tripod next to me. From this, we can adjust the position of the test optic and the reference sphere to obtain a perfectly calibrated system. Indeed you don’t even need binoculars to do this as you can see the Andromeda galaxy M31 with the naked eye. All models feature high quality BaK-4 prisms and fully multi-coated optics to ensure the very best contrast and light transmission, essential for good astronomical binoculars.

The 7x50 specification is particularly suited to marine and coastal observation as well as binocular astronomy either hand-held or tripod mounted. Each tester had their favourite, often influenced by the shape and size of the binoculars: a bit like shoe size. A 7x magnification binocular is considered the ideal marine or low light binocular, this size would be perfect as a gift when you’re unsure of what the binoculars would be used for. Marine-3 7x50 binoculars are designed and manufactured to meet the toughest performance criteria demanded by enthusiasts and professional users observing from on-board a vessel or onshore looking out to sea. Testers’ comments were favourable regarding the compact size and light weight, but some had a little difficulty reading the compass – the blue compass light sent some flare into the field of view – and the damping was found to be less effective than some of the others. Featuring flat field lenses that result in excellent edge-to-edge sharpness and optimal eye relief, these exceptional binoculars provide superb image quality, even when wearing glasses.

Our experienced staff can test refractor lenses up to 120mm aperture and provide a comprehensive 2 page report showing the optical quality and Strehl ratio, plus much more information. Please ensure that you have suitably packaged the item as we are not responsible for damages occurred during postage back to us.It's manufactured with a robust rubber armour body and offers a range of 367ft (132m) at 1000 yards. When I first used them on my boat they acquired some salt spray, so I carefully rinsed them off in fresh water back at home. The Konus Tornado’s lightness and neat dimensions merited praise, although some testers expressed reservations about compass legibility and damping.

So as well as taking the weight off your arms, this is the other reason why you need a tripod when using high powered/giant binoculars for astronomy.Optical performance is superb due to premium quality BaK-4 prisms, multi-coated optics, long-eye relief, and oversized eye-lenses. It comes with a reticle scale but no built-in calculator ring, and is available in all-black or black and white. The binoculars come with a wide neck strap and a carrying case for security, portability, and grab-and-go convenience. Being able to read a compass bearing is also a useful feature, whether for determining position or deciding if there is a risk of collision from a closing vessel. Excellent casual stargazing for the money These are a really great item, good value for money, easy to hold for extended viewing, decided on these instead of the 10x50s after advice from Harrisons.

Within the interferometer is a calibrated laser that is pointed through the optical test surface, then onto a high quality reference sphere, then back through the test subject then to an internal camera which gives us the measurement on the screen. All pairs passed our ‘dunk’ test for floating (with swim strap where appropriate) and waterproofness. Generally, the higher the Strehl ratio, the lower the Astigmatism and Coma meaning a better image quality from your instrument. At dusk and at night we compared them by looking at distant objects: Ryde church tower was a favourite. Minox’s top model comes with a range of digital features including compass display, with precise tilt compensation; the measurement and recording of air pressure; a thermometer, an altimeter and a watch/stopwatch function.Great value I bought the Binoculars for observing at night, unfortunately we’ve had clouded evenings since we got them, however daytime use has been great, clear vision and very lightweight. So here once again, the 7x50 setup makes it much easier to keep a steady view and thus perfect for use in the hands. Long eye relief eyepieces and large depth of field provide the best chances for stable, comfortable viewing under continuous motion with or without glasses. They feature a range finder for calculating distances (note the graduated ring behind the right-hand objective lens), and are non-floating although a swim strap is provided.
