And I can happily say that that statement is an insult to those at Traveller's Tales who developed the game.

The game was cancelled due to layoffs at Radical on February 11, 2010, and was abandoned in favor of Prototype 2. The only way to stop the Elementals' destructive nature is to imprison them with the use of ancient Crystals. The main antagonist of the series, Doctor Neo Cortex, is a mad scientist who created Crash Bandicoot among other characters and now seeks Crash's elimination along with world domination. This game was to be Crash Nitro Kart, but due to unknown circumstances Universal Interactive transferred development to Vicarious Visions. But that's not necessarily an improvement, since the low-poly, low-quality designs of everything makes it feel so lacking. Goldstein was relieved by the reduction of slowdown and stuttering in the Xbox version and lauded the visuals as having the best use of colour on the system, but dismissed the enemy design as bland. The long loading times in the PS2 version were widely criticized, and their reduction in the Xbox and GameCube versions was welcomed.

Reviewers felt that the game was a non-challenging repetition of the formula set by the previous games, with Ben Kosmina of Nintendo World Report summarizing the game's structure as "a carbon copy of Crash 3". A rearranged version of the original Crash Bandicoot theme by Mutato Muzika's Josh Mancell also appears in the game. The agreement served to break the Crash Bandicoot franchise's exclusivity to Sony-produced consoles and effectively made Crash Bandicoot a mascot character for Universal rather than Sony.

Development began on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and it was intended to be ported for Wii afterwards. As such, Wrath of Cortex finds Crash running, jumping and spinning through over 30 hazard-filled levels, with a host of familiar faces from the long-running series also along for the ride. Much of the game takes place in a "Virtual Reality (VR) Hub System" created by Coco to help Crash gather the Crystals. Neo Cortex has developed a new diabolical plan to steal ancient crystals and unleash destructive gods on Crash and the planet Earth. Having played Crash 2 and 3 to death, I was eagerly awaiting the release of this game, despite the scepticism of critics, who were already claiming it was more of the same. After developing Crash Twinsanity, Traveller's Tales Oxford Studio began developing another Crash Bandicoot game, a racing title which would have served as a direct sequel to Twinsanity.
