The game is played in a number of rounds per match, the exact number of rounds determined by how long it takes one player to utterly destroy the others.

As a game involving magicians throwing around spells to kill each other, Spell Wars is most reminiscent of Magic: The Gathering. There's also some ability to set up clever card combinations, which I suspect was one of the intents of the design.However, given the mechanics of the attacks, I think merging these all together will be a recipe for utter chaos! That would be disappointing, for the brevity of this review simply mirrors the simplicity of the basic mechanics of the Epic Spell Wars. Source cards give you dramatic origins of your spell, often another wizard's name - such as 'Bleemax Brainiac" - or an occult book or other bizarre source.
