The game is played in a number of rounds per match, the exact number of rounds determined by how long it takes one player to utterly destroy the others.

As a game involving magicians throwing around spells to kill each other, Spell Wars is most reminiscent of Magic: The Gathering. There's also some ability to set up clever card combinations, which I suspect was one of the intents of the design. However, given the mechanics of the attacks, I think merging these all together will be a recipe for utter chaos! That would be disappointing, for the brevity of this review simply mirrors the simplicity of the basic mechanics of the Epic Spell Wars. Source cards give you dramatic origins of your spell, often another wizard's name - such as 'Bleemax Brainiac" - or an occult book or other bizarre source. Promo Characters (Special Guest Wizards like: Wilhellion, Studd Spellslammer, Abraca-Labrador, Gorzo' and more! Even though we dropped the wizard voices about halfway through it was fun to try different voices and read the spells.

With that said, it's an excellent example of the genre that solves many of the genre's typical problems and is a lot of fun besides. This game is great, I laughed hard reading the background in the first two pages of the instructions, as well as reading and seeing the cards! This is one of several Epic Spell Wars game sets, each playable as a stand- alone set, or able to mesh with other Epic Spell Wars sets for bigger and more badass games. The object of Spell Wars is to be the Last Wizard Standing twice, which means killing all of your opponents during two different battles. In the game, 2-6 players move up and down the Social Status Board, which ranges from the Ultimate Loser to Class President, and utilize the new keyword "Bully" as they try to annihilate their fellow wizards. It's quick, fun, original, simple enough that anyone can pick it up in one round, and it seems to have a universal appeal. Each player chooses a Wizard card to represent their battling brujo, and uses this card to keep track of their Hit Points.

They may allow you to add even more than three cards to your spell, increasing your epic spell mojo to even grander levels! The spell components are all cunningly designed so that they form coherent and fun spell names when they're laid out in this way. And if you really want to duke it out, WILD WIZARD STYLE, you can upgrade your ANNIHILAGEDDON 2 experience by getting the plastic XTREME Nacho Power Trophy and Power Chips … sold separately! Amazing art with over 100 unique images, the world of epic spell battles comes to righteously hilarious life! Look at you, ready to get down and make this weekend count I will be finishing decorating the front of the house for Halloween.Spells wear down your opponents' hit points, and set you up to win the match, earning you the coveted title of Last Wizard Standing. New XTREME Nacho Chips that let you activate special card abilities AND reduce the cost of special LEGENDARY cards to super charge your deck! Wild magic cards can be added to replace components of a spell that you might not have and, upon announcing, the spell cards are drawn from the main deck until a matching component is located, then added to the spell. Power rolls are performed by counting the number of elements that match the deliver component of the spell, matching the same type is usually better. But if a big splash of damage is heading your way, why not have your little buddy jump in the way and take that blast instead of you?

You then get to draw a Dead Wizard card, and will draw an additional one for every additional round in the current battle. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It also would have been nice if the Dead Wizard and Treasure spell decks had actual labels rather than just pictures on the back. This is all balanced by the fact that you choose to use specific cards that target the people you want to target, it's just a more limited possibility (and another element of tactical play).
