Description

Nathalie Johnson, who owns a computer empire and is described as the "female Bill Gates." She is Susan's most trusted confidant, and provides support to Jamie during Nightrise. Sir Michael Marsh (it is suspected he may have been connected with Nightrise due to his political influence) Dravid meets Matt and Richard after hours at the London Natural History Museum and explains he is part of a covert group called the Nexus, which keeps the story of Raven’s Gate alive. Raven’s Gate, he tells them, was an ancient circle of stones pre-dating Stonehenge. Powerful, evil creatures called the Old Ones created chaos on earth until a group of five special children overthrew them, sending them into another dimension and sealing off their re-entry point with the stone circle. Somehow, Matt is one of these five children. Though the stones were destroyed, the gate still exists. As Dravid, Richard and Matt try to exit the museum, dinosaur bones come to life and battle them. Dravid dies, and Richard is nearly killed.

Matt’s powers once allowed him to break a glass with his mind. He harnesses them again and keeps Marsh’s knife from killing him inside Omega One. Matt and Richard consult with Miss Ashwood, a psychic and spiritualist who speaks with people on the other side just like she speaks with living humans. Miss Ashwood is a Nexus member who expresses her deep sense of foreboding about the future. She says all history has been preparing itself for the return of the five special children and the battle ahead. Miss Ashwood also tells Matt she feels the power in him and has never felt such strength before. Matt is going to Lesser Malling, a town in the middle of no where, because he was stealing things with his friend and his friend tried to kill a guy. He would have gone to jail, but there is a government project for young criminals. Matt’s parents died when he was young and his aunt and her boyfriend took Matt in for his parent’s trust money, which they immediately spent all of and then hated Matt because they didn’t want him anyway, they only wanted the money. He chose to go to Mrs. Deverill’s house in Lesser Malling, which was the biggest mistake he could have made. Matt and Richard escape, foiling the experiment. Most of the witches die, Mrs. Deverill falls into a vat of acid and an Old One gets through Raven’s Gate just long enough to kill Marsh before being returned to its prison. In Necropolis, he went through the doorway in the Tai Shan Temple along with Scott, and ended up in Italy 10 years later. He was held as a prisoner in a castle situated in Naples, along with Scott. After a few weeks of being held in prison, Scott under the influence of the Old Ones joins their side along with Jonas Mortlake, son of Susan Mortlake, while Pedro afterwards escaped the prison and travelled to Rome with the help of an Italian boy named Giovanni. He used the door in St. Peter's Basilica in Rome to get to Oblivion, Antarctica where he and the remaining four finally defeat the Old Ones. After winning the battle, he joins Matt and the other three to live in the dreamworld situated beyond the mountains of Oblivion. Matt ends up living with Richard in York. They get a visit from Fabian, a member of Nexus, who has come to talk to him about a second gate in Peru. Richard doesn't want to go through all this again, but Matt explains he has no choice because he is a Gatekeeper and, as the Old Ones will try to break out again, it is his destiny to stop them when they do.This is a list of all the antagonists and protagonists in The Power of Five series by Anthony Horowitz. The series chronicles the war between the Old Ones and the Five Gatekeepers. The Five are Matthew Freeman, Pedro/ Inti, Scott and Jamie Tyler ( Flint and Sapling) and Scarlett Adams (Scar, or Lin Mo, the Chinese goddess of the sea). The Old Ones ruled the world for eighty years at the dawn of humanity, but the Five defeated them, and threw them into Hell, causing the demons to await their return for millennia. Two gates were built in between Earth and Hell to keep the Old Ones out - these are the focus of the series and consist of Raven's Gate, and the Nazca Desert, which is the second gate. Raven's Gate is the first of five books in The Power Of Five series, written by Anthony Horowitz. It was published and released in the UK on 1 August 2005, by Walker Books Ltd and in the US (June 1, 2005) by Scholastic Press under the adjusted series title Chaos is the King of the Old Ones and is the main antagonist of the entire series. The King was not actually named Chaos, but the ancient human resistance gave him that name, due to his motivations. Chaos seeks to destroy humanity and conquer the Earth, in doing so reshaping the Earth in his own dark, poisonous image. If he could have succeeded ten thousand years ago, Chaos would have reduced the world to an empty swamp. Even though Chaos has been thrown from the world by the power of Five, his influence still remains throughout the human race. Lohan sells Matt for a fourth time but they are both taken as slaves to a gold mine. Matt comes down with a fever and is too ill to use his powers to escape. When Matt is recovering, they initiate their escape when Matt collapses the mine tunnels and breaks the ladders causing mass panic. Matt and Lohan travel towards the helicopter pad, Lohan decides to desert him and travel away. Matt senses this and comes after him, Lohan changes his mind and they fly to Oblivion. Richard Cole: Matt couldn't see very much in the darkness, Sir Michael. But he said that the men were wearing strange, bulky clothes. I wondered if they might have been radiation suits.

If I told you everything I'm about to tell you now, my reputation, everything I've worked for, would disappear overnight. It makes no sense. Not in the real world, anyway. Susan Ashwood may have seemed eccentric to you. You might have thought she was a fraud. However, I'm telling you she was right. There is another world. We are surrounded by it. There is an alternative history as alive in the streets of twenty-first century London as it was many thousands of years ago, when it all began. But only cranks and lunatics are meant to believe in it, because you see, that way everyone feels safer... Jamie and Scott are identical twins and members of the Washoe tribe. Their previous incarnations are Sapling (Jamie) and Flint (Scott). Jamie and Scott have the power of astral projection and Telepathy (including mind control), particularly between each other, at times exhibiting Morphic resonance. Although it may seem like the characters are very clear-cut, some are neutral (for example Paul Adams and the Incas). Even the Old Ones themselves can appear decent and friendly - this is their main weapon such as how Audrey Cheng uses her charisma to influence Scarlett when in human form. Father Gregory is an antagonist in book four, Necropolis. His birth name is Gregor Malenkov. He is the leader of the Monastery of the Cry for Mercy in Ukraine. His monks capture Scarlett Adams when she steps through the door at St Meredith's Church. He tells her that he was born in the Soviet Union and when he was nineteen entered a seminary in England. Gregory became cynical of his teachings, as he lived a life of hardship with nothing to show for it. In the monastery Father Gregory found the door and became obsessed with it. After the battle, they all have a celebratory meal. Matt gives the other Gatekeepers a chance to stay and rebuild Earth or come with him to the Dreamworld. All the five decide to travel to the Dreamworld, where they meet the Librarian, and a woman, who to each of them has a different appearance (their mother).
