Description

Since everyone is bidding with the same thing (colored meeples), and colors are not associated with players, it takes a second to register where you are bidding, what you are winning, and where you might want to play. This is topped off by the fact that one currency (green) is more rare than the others and can be used even more effectively at just the right time. These situations are not common, but with less players (the less players in the game, the less tiles you use), they can definitely happen. Since the players know exactly which resource generation tiles will come out during the game, this makes their value effectively fixed (plus or minus which other scoring tiles come out along the way).

The points here could be made individually in the pros and cons sections since they are definitively pros and cons of the game.I’ve seen games where one player and her pool of green keyples ends up with nearly all of the winter tiles, or where she blocks off players from using their own tiles by simply placing out one green keyple. In KttCL, once you fulfill a tile’s requirements you simply activate it as you normally would to perform the upgrade. Unless you have a really good teacher, chances are you’ll just be guessing at what a decent strategy is during your first game and then see if you can pull everything together when the scoring tiles arrive in Autumn and Winter.

But don’t be deceived, much like Agricola the artwork is inviting but doesn’t quite convey how heavy and deep this game actually is. On the other hand, it removes some of the complexity of building a strategy around whats available to you. It is a brilliant game with lots of different strategies to win (and unfortunately for me, to lose) and it seems that playing Keyflower different ways two times will not result in a guaranteed win, even if the first time you do win.Since there’s no main game board it can be a hassle at first to track all of the actions that are in the game, whether they’ve been upgraded, and where they are. Join the community and come discuss games like Codenames, Wingspan, Brass, and all your other favorite games!

Balance is necessary as is knowing how the tiles that you acquire and actions that you use can be translated into points. If you enjoy games like Stone Age, Champions of Midgard or Lords of Waterdeep, then this game may well appeal to you. If the tile has already been bid for by another player then the bid must be with a greater number of workers than the previous bid. Considering it feels very much like a euro styled game it's both surprisingly user friendly to learn for new players of all skill levels and with the turn clock in place pretty quick to actually play. Across four rounds players will build up a colonial town, populating it with immigrants who arrive on boats at the end of each round.Controlling colors can be just as important as using the powerful actions early or establishing a key bid.

A lot of the actions let you gain something: tools, workers, and resources are the main things that you will gather over the course of the game. If no player bid for the new start player tile, the existing start player remains the start player for the purposes of collecting the boat contents. In the case of workers, players are permitted to feel the contents of the bag to determine how many workers remain in the bag before they bid for a tile. You can try to do so late in the turn or during a critical moment when you think the other players will be distracted. For all of the scoring tiles except the Keythedral, the game end bonuses may be scored multiple times if the player has sufficient resources, skills or workers.
