How long to use it for

A dry mouth is rarely a sign of anything serious. There are things you can do to help ease it yourself. See a GP if these do not work or you also have other symptoms. Causes of a dry mouth See a dentist or doctor if the sore areas in your mouth are bothering you, or if they do not heal. You may need a different treatment. If you forget to use it Thrush can cause pain, and difficulty with swallowing and chewing. Treat it with antifungal tablets, liquids or topical mouth sprays. Ask the patient’s GP, district nurse or specialist nurse to arrange treatment.

You or the person who's unwell may also have a rash that's swollen, raised, itchy, blistered or peeling. Those who suffer with mouth ulcers know only too well how uncomfortable and painful these little sores can be. Usually occurring as a result of damage to the lining of the mouth, these round or oval-shaped sores can be found anywhere on the inside of your mouth or on the tongue. Thankfully, you don’t have to suffer for long; there are multiple products available on the market that offer to treat mouth ulcers, and below you’ll discover the products we recommend (and since one of our testers has suffered with mouth ulcers their entire life, we know what works!). Wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before having something to eat or drink. How to use sore throat treatments Mouth (oral) problems are common in palliative care. They can have a negative impact on someone's quality of life, both physically and emotionally. Mouth care should be part of daily routine care for all patients. Also Contains: Hydroxypropylcellulose, Macrogolglycerol Hydroxystearate, Sodium acetate, Levomenthol, Peppermint Oil, Isoprpyl alcohol and water. You can also support the patient by encouraging good fluid intake, changing the toothbrush regularly , keeping the mouth moist and giving painkillers if appropriate. Bad breath (halitosis) You can rinse or gargle with 15ml of the Difflam every 1 ½ – 3 hours as needed. There’s a little measuring cup provided, so you can measure out the correct amount of liquid. The rinse isn’t recommended for use for more than seven days, and make sure you don’t swallow after rinsing – apart from anything else, we wouldn’t recommend the taste! Common side effects with the throat spray, lozenges and dental treatments include a dry mouth and stained teeth.

If you have been prescribed chlorhexidine and forget to take it or apply it on a regular basis, it may help to set an alarm to remind you. You could also ask your pharmacist for other ways to remember your medicine. What if I use too much? Stop using chlorhexidine dental treatments and speak to a dentist, doctor or pharmacist if your mouth is: Pour 10ml into the measuring cup. Rinse the mouthwash around your mouth for about 1 minute.
