Thank you Lisa for being so honest with your experience, this book really helped me and I related to everything she went through with ivf. All the experiences are so well written and I’ve found this to be a very therapeutic and uplifting book as I too parent plus. In a raw and inspiring story of one woman's journey through motherhood, family life and self-discovery, Lisa explores the many forms that family can take, and discovers the power of embracing your Plan B. It seemed that as soon as my biological clock started ticking, it escalated to a disco beat pretty damn fast. Excellent book for anyone thinking about adoption and asking themselves whether they are right for it.

Lisa takes you on an emotional journey of the challenges she and other couples have faced to become a parent. Every time it failed, I felt my body had betrayed me, that I hadn’t looked after that precious embryo well enough. She had seemed to settle so easily and didn’t seem at all disturbed by the fact that she was coming to stay with us, though I knew from the work we had done that it would all be in her head somewhere. Thoroughly moving book and a brave and honest account of the epic journey some women face to become a mother. A great reminder that our paths may be different to those intended, but we can still get to the destination.

I had made dinner, we had kept her safe, we hadn’t done anything to overstimulate her and she had very happily gone to bed, and more importantly to sleep. Exactly the same as Lisa; I did not share everything I went through during my IVF journey, which is now a blur, as I could not cope with the scrutiny or expectation of IVF, so my husband and I kept the burden to ourselves. That first day we took her to the park and played on the swings, we fed the ducks and then came home and played with her toys. I found myself drawn to it all given that I can relate to the very early stages of Lisa’s desire to want a baby. So here I would like to recommend this book no matter if you have children or not, or if you are having trouble falling pregnant you may find some suggestions in Lisa's book Meant to Be.

Chris and I stood on the other side of that door for about 20 minutes, looking at each other and listening to her gurgling into her bottle and singing to herself, hardly daring to move or make a sound for fear that we might disturb her. I cried through a lot of this book, not for sadness of what was not to be but of the grief I felt at the time and wasn’t able to express. Life can be unexpected; my plan was to be in a happy marriage with a biological child, and look how that turned out.She really needed us, and she needed us to step up to the mark and be the grown-ups and not let her down.
