I've previously tested and loved Celestron's StarSense Explorer DX telescope ( 9/10, WIRED Recommends), which uses the same smartphone app and cradle. The tech here is both impressive and simple, combining the power of a star map in your phone with a mirror on the telescope to handle the navigation for you. The Dobsonian model is much larger and more powerful. The temperature should be as far away from the dew point as possible. This means less condensation or dew to interfere with your seeing. If the dew point gets too low you can use accessories to fight against the dew. Read more about active dew control in the linked post. Orion binoculars are known for quality optics at a great price. We offer binoculars for every viewing interest, including astronomical binoculars, compact binoculars, waterproof binoculars, birding binoculars, and sport and hunting binoculars. All mirror surfaces are coated with our XLT optical coatings to visibly increase contrast and light throughput for brighter views. With XLT, you'll be able to discern subtle details while viewing the Moon and planets, as well as faint galaxies and nebulae. The mirrors are made of low-expansion optical glass, which helps ensure the best images under changing environmental conditions.

Optical Coatings: XLT reflective coatings with silicon dioxide and tantalum pentoxide protective overcoatings for primary and sceondary mirrors The bottom of the telescope's base is styled like a "Lazy Susan". An azimuth roller bearing provides dozens of support points for smooth, 360º motion, and sealed ball bearings keep movements in altitude easy and smooth as well. To easily move the AD10 up and down but help it to stay in the desired position, the telescope tension can be adjusted to match the weight of accessories on the tube assembly. To use this system, just turn the large aluminum knobs on either side of the telescope to tighten or loosen the tension until everything balances perfectly. Easy and fast! While other astronomy apps may claim that they can help you find objects, they rely exclusively on the phone's gyros and accelerometers, which aren't as accurate as LISA technology. No other app can accurately tell you when your target is visible in the eyepiece. Part Number: 4716425 Now includes full aperture Solar-filter for safe observation of sunspots, eclipses and planet transits.

Because we sell direct, we can offer you tremendous value at a great price. A Dobsonian telescope is a Newtonian telescope, with what's known as a two-axis altazimuth mount. The mount turns in a circle and also allows the scope to move up and down. The mount points support the weight of a larger mirror than you'll get in other designs, and it puts the balance point near the bottom of the scope, making it easy to move. The result is a big, powerful telescope that's not too heavy or difficult to maneuver. Please be aware that The Widescreen Centre cannot be held responsible for any postal or third-party delays that may occur. Knurled collimation knobs on the primary mirror cell making precise optical alignment much easier – no more fumbling with tools in the dark. Celestron has released two nearly identical Dobsonian models. One is an 8-inch scope, and the other, which I tested, is a 10-inch scope. Aside from the size (which increases the light gathering power), the design is identical. It's important to realize that this is a big telescope. Don't let the words “10-inch” in the name fool you—that only refers to the aperture (diameter). Fully assembled, the 10-inch model stands just shy of 5 feet tall. The scope itself is 44 inches in length. It's portable because it's not too heavy, but taking it anywhere by car is going to require a good-sized vehicle.

How about a state of the art, fully computerized dobsonian telescope to give you a huge head start? The Orion SkyQuest XT8i Dobsonian IntelliScope is the smart solution for the tech loving astronomer willing to make a solid investment. Like any other type of telescope, a Dobsonian requires a storage space that’s clean, dry and dust-free. It should also be a space without extreme temperature fluctuations. Keeping the telescope in a space that maintains ambient temperature reduces cooling time when you take it out for observations. I would say that if you are going to be traveling frequently with your telescope this is about the largest solid tube I can recommend. What makes Dobsonian telescopes incredibly popular with beginner astronomers is that they are very easy to setup and use. For most of the models, all you have to do is place the tube on the mount and get it working. You don’t even need to be a professional or even a bit familiar with equatorial mounts to install. Likewise, it’s pretty much a point and look type of telescope that rotates any way you want. The scope arrived within 24 hours !!!! ... It was a bit confusing because i didn't think there were enough screws ,but , the base was partly assembled already so that was fine.
