The Destination cards then all shift to the right and a new Destination card is revealed. Discard cards matching the symbols on a Destination card to Tour (claim) it. I’m Touring the Taj Mahal. In 2-player games, players can be further spread out on the board — which can make claiming Region bonuses a little easier. After all, if the other player isn’t on the same continent as you, you can walk away with a lot of cubes. Of course, they can be doing the same in their Region. But you can also judge better at which Destinations they may be able to claim before you. Then there are the Destinations themselves. The row of Destination cards clearly show which types of cards are needed to claim them. And players can pay attention to which Trek cards their opponents are grabbing along the way — giving them an idea of which Destination they’re vying for. So players will need to make choices as to which Destinations are in their best interest to compete for and which are better left alone. Then players are ready to start traveling! Zipping around the world, collecting souvenirs and touring.

The end of the game is triggered when five of the six region tokens are claimed, or when a player tours their fifth card. For the final scoring you add all the points together from the souvenir tiles, the region bonus tokens, victory point tokens, destination cards and the souvenir sets you’ve collected in your suitcase. One set of souvenirs is one complete row from up to down and the points given for that set stands below the souvenirs. The player with the most victory points is the winner! We’ve had to cancel two big vacations we’d been looking forward to for a long time. One of those would have been this week. We’re totally bummed that we couldn’t be seeing new sights in Asia right now. This is a game that needs to be played with an open mind and flexibility. While it has a dressing of a fairly strategic game, it is ultimately more tactical. You will need to plan several turns ahead, but if someone gets to something before you, you may be starting from zero again. With there only being five destinations to tour at a time and two of those destinations being worth 3 or 5 bonus points, you are bound to clash with someone else on the board. For that reason, I think this game is best at two to three players. With each player beyond that, you’ll feel like you have less control over how well your plans pan out.Lastly, players also have the option of using the Journey abilities at the right time as well. Since those change from game to game, they give Trekking the World great replay value. The general flow won’t change, but a player’s strategy can shift to take advantage of those cards along the way. Plenty of Journey cards, but only 2 are in play during each game.

Final Score: 3 Stars – Amazing art and production elevate a decent gateway game with a pleasant theme of world travel But all hope isn’t lost. We just bump it out for some future, currently unknown, date. We know we’ll get their one day. There are certainly some downsides brought about by the way cards are gained and the way they are spent. Getting cards can be a bit slow, and unless there’s just the right journey action available, you could end up using several turns where your main action is just drawing cards. That slowness is compounded by the fact that you have to spend cards to move every turn. It can be frustrating at times. While the game is meant to feel like traveling the world, many turns feel more like your flight was delayed at the airport, or at the very least, you’ll have an unexpected layover on the way to your destination. You may think that better planning can get around this, but again, people will be getting in your way and even taking things from you before you get there. Final Thoughts: Each player chooses a Trekker and places them on one of the airport locations to begin. They also get a Suitcase sheet that matches their Trekker’s color. Lastly, the Trek cards are shuffled and each player is dealt 3 cards to form their starting hand. The rest of the Trek cards are placed next to the board in a draw pile and 4 are placed face-up. Take a Tour: If the player’s Trekker is at a location that matches one of the face-up Destination cards, they may discard cards matching the symbols/colors of that Destination card to claim it. If the Destination card is one of the two farthest to the right, it’s a Must-See destination and the player also claims a Victory Point token (3 point or 5 point) adjacent to that Destination card. While the rules are very simple to understand and remember, the game also involves interesting choices along the way.

Every game plays out differently because of how the Souvenir cubes get disbursed and which Journey cards are in play.

Happy Customers

And in the meantime, we can jet all around the world in our imagination while we play Trekking the World! If there is a cube at the location you finish at, you may take it an place it on your suitcase. If you at any time collect the most souvenirs, or are the first one to reach the star of a color of souvenirs. You can claim the most souvenirs tile of that color. This also means, if another player has the yellow souvenirs tile with three cubes, but you collect four cubes and have now the most yellow souvenirs, you claim the tile from the other player. The souvenirs tiles give you more points at the end of the game. If you collect the last souvenir in a region, you may also take the region bonus token. These tokens will also provide you with bonus points at the end of the game.
