My wife and I regularly play this game with just the two of us, at which point it’s actually entirely possible for someone to draw four or five different classes off the bat and for the other player not to draw the interactive cards needed to slow them down. This is the funniest part of the game, screwing over your friends and stopping them from winning the game. Druid Deer protect your army, such as ‘Maegisty’ and ‘Doe Fallow’ … took me too long to figure that one out. I’m assuming that you’ve already played Here to Slay, the base game, but if you haven’t- stop right here!

Thankfully, Here to Slay brings a bit more control to the proceedings, with the beautifully cute creatures here – rather than simply being put in play to fill a ‘stable’ – forming RPG-style parties and slaying oversized monsters. If they win the challenge, they still get to play their card, but if you win the challenge, you get to send their card directly to the discard pile! What took me by surprise was that the Druid powers are activated by rolling a number less than the number stated on the card. The two six-sided dice included are pretty solid, however, and have a unicorn horn on the ‘1’ side, which adds to the consistent visual design of the game. The expansion recommends that you now collect 8 classes of hero, which makes it a more balanced game in our experience. Whether you need to recover from a low roll or sabotage the high roll of an opponent, modifier cards can be a handy tool when luck doesn’t seem to be on your side. It’s one of my go-to casual games and a great option when my wife and I want to have fun with a board game that doesn’t require too much time or brain power.
