Description

However, as we learned from AMD’s journey with the Ryzen processors, today’s software and operating systems still aren’t designed to fully exploit massively parallel x86 architectures, and we'll see plenty of examples of that in our testing today. I have also worked Framestore, ILM, MPC etc & the idea of running windows for vfx on that scale is seriously scary. I think it's fair to say 95%+ of vfx are linux, cause only a few smaller houses run windows, often with horrendous results. We begin by recording the frequencies of each core during a series of commonly-used tests that should expose the peak frequencies. The first two tests are LAME and Cinebench in single-core test mode. These programs only execute on one core of the processor, which typically allows the chip to reach its peak boost frequency within its power, current, and thermal envelope. We also ran PCMark 10, Geekbench, and VRMark in rapid succession to measure frequencies during intermittent "bursty" workloads. AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X 64-Core, 128-Thread Unlocked

The new AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X is a 64 core, 128 thread processor designed for the high-end desktop market. The CPU is a variant of AMD’s Enterprise EPYC processor line, offering more frequency and a higher power budget, but fewer memory channels, fewer PCIe, and a lower memory capacity support. The 3990X is at that cusp between consumer and enterprise based on its features and cost, and it’s ultimately going to compete against both. On paper, users who don’t necessarily need all of the 64 core EPYC features might turn to the 3990X, whereas consumers who need more than 32 cores are going to look here as well. We’re going to test against both. https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/xmr?HashingPower=52020&HashingUnit=H/s&PowerConsumption=300&CostPerkWh=0.06&MiningPoolFee=1 As we can see, the Threadripper 3990X is significantly faster with up to a 2.9 GHz base and 4.3GHz boost than the EPYC 7702P, an improvement of 900 MHz and ~1 GHz, respectively. The DX12 tests expose the huge step forward with the other Threadripper 3000 processors as the chips easily outpace their predecessors, but the 3990X trails behind the 24-core 3960X, just like the 32-core 3970X.Analitikai sütik Ezek az Ön tevékenységeinek nyomon követésére szolgálnak adatelemzés céljából, mint például a reklámozás hatékonyságának értékelése, személyre szabott tartalom felajánlása./span> Modern virtualization functions such as AMD-V are naturally supported as well as the AES-New Instructions that enable a hardware enthusiast and encryption via hardware and speed up the system in all encryption tasks. Some applications can span across both groups, but many cannot, and we have the added complexity of multiple NUMA nodes. That means we experience sub-par scaling in some workloads with both the 3990X and our server platforms. We ran a limited subset of tests with the server platforms due to concerns of the impact of dissimilar memory and graphics, but be aware that some of these results suffer from processor grouping and/or application scaling issues. The results are still relevant, as it highlights applications where the 3990X may or may not be a better choice than a server platform. We also tested the 3990X with the 32GB memory kit recommended by AMD, but the company says some applications could benefit from more memory capacity. We’re testing against the dual 8280s and the W-3175X as well. Please note our 2x8280 results are from an older review, and so it hasn’t been run on some of our newer benchmarks. This Review Far Cry 5's unoptimized code incurs a big performance penalty when all cores and threads are exposed to the operating system (creator mode), so we also tested this title in game mode.

Depending on the mainboard, the processor can use a maximum of 4 (Quad Channel) memory channels. This results in a maximum bandwidth of the main memory of 51.2 GB/s. Really enjoyed that one! Great comparison of the HEDT CPU's v Server and Mainstream, the good, the bad, and the ugly! The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990X has a TDP of 280 W. Based on the TDP, the system manufacturer can and must adapt the cooling solution to the processor. The AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x is manufactured in 7 nm structural width at Globalfoundries, the former semiconductor division of AMD. It is based on the Castle Peak (Zen 2) Architecture of AMD. Despite the 64 cores AMD also classified the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x with 280 watt TDP. AMD ties the compute chiplets together via the Infinity Fabric to a large central 12nm I/O die (IOD) that houses two 32x PCIe Gen4 controllers and two dual-channel DDR4 memory controllers. However, this IOD is significantly different than the one present in the EPYC Rome 7702P, largely because AMD culled support for eight-channel memory and halved PCIe 4.0 support to 64 lanes. The processor supports the new PCIe 4.0 standard to connect external devices. For this purpose, the processor provides 72 PCIe lines. Thus, several graphics cards or SSDs can be controlled without power or bandwidth.

Anyway, including the gaming metrics is just being comprehensive. That's why I come to Tom's. Comprehensive is good. Don't resist the urge to include these benches in future comparison's. Don't mind the detractors! :D Even though we have plenty of exciting results to share, our testing is full of caveats, but that's largely due to poor software support. You can configure the Threadripper 3990X to present itself as multiple NUMA nodes that the operating system sees as separate entities with their own banks of memory ( deeper explanation here). Description of the processorThe AMD Ryzen ThreaDripper 3990x is the current 3rd generation highest thread ripper processor. He offers whopping 64 cores and the hyperthreading technology 128 logical processors. Like all high-end processors from AMD, the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990x is overactable.
