Description

Wipe your painting surface with a cloth slightly wet with denatured alcohol to remove any texture paste dust before painting. Extend your paint by mixing it with gels. I often add a few drops to a tablespoon of gel into my paint, working it together with a knife. I prefer using a knife over a brush because the gel can clog a paintbrush and create unsightly brush marks. Self levelling with some flexibility. Best used as for a spray-applied isolation coat. Two parts of GAC 500 mixed with one part High Flow Medium produces a good spraying, fast-drying isolation coat. Useful to hard-edge painters to seal masking tape for cleaner edges. Apply over masking tape. Let dry before applying additional paint layer. GAC 700 In this video we demonstrate how to hand laminate a mould using our EG160 High Temperature Epoxy Tooling Gelcoat and our EMP160 High Temperature Epoxy Mould Making Paste. The resultant mould can be used for out-of-autoclave (OOA) Pre-preg use as well as other applications where high temperature tooling may be needed.

To start the styling process, grab a dime-sized dollop of hair paste. Then, start activating and warming it up by rubbing it in between the palms of your hands; there should be no clumps. If further paste is required, you can add more later. You don’t want to start off with too much product, as this will potentially ruin the desired result. The dried texture was interesting in how it reflected light, and the glaze effect, when it was painted over with a transparent colour, was very notable and pleasing.Patterns should first be gelcoated with EG160 High Temp Epoxy Tooling Gelcoat. For small to medium sized moulds, the high temperature laminating paste can then be used on its own with no further reinforcement necessary. For larger moulds, the paste can be used in conjunction with EL160 High Temp Epoxy Laminating Resin and additional reinforcement (such as woven glass or carbon), in which case the paste can be used to fillet tight corners or smooth over complex details on the mould making it easier to produce a void-free mould using woven reinforcement. You could achieve some mounds, if not peaks, and build up depth. The shrinkage wasn’t noticeable, due to the inclusion of plastic crystals, that were already solid. This is becasue the polymer acts mainly as a “glue”, rather than as the body of the gel. Using a paste is easy: apply a small, dime-sized amount of product on wet hair for a little bit more hold or dry hair for more texture. Make sure to warm it up by rubbing it in the palm of your hands before applying it to avoid clumping. Most pastes are water-soluble, which means they’re easy to wash out with some shampoo and won’t leave your hair greasy but also can be restyled and reworked throughout the day without adding more to your hair. If you’ve ever noticed your hair drooping after a long day of work, then you know how important restyling can be. When you walk into the art supply store, are you befuddled by the rows of acrylic products and acrylic paint mediums that all look the same? You’re not alone. In this article, I’m unraveling the mysteries of acrylic paint mediums, gels, and pastes. Each product has qualities that enable acrylic painters to achieve a multitude of special effects and textures. For the best results, I recommend starting with artist’s grade acrylic paint, even if you’re just getting started with acrylics. 1. Gels

Reduces crazing and is useful for pouring. Dries with good film flexibility but a slight haze on the surface. Can be used to make an acrylic adhere better to chalky surfaces. GAC 900 Most mediums are available in gloss, matt or semi-matt and you can use a varnish over a finished acrylic painting to unify the finish whether you want a matt, gloss or semi-gloss surface. This is why we chose not to look at sheen for this comparison. SANDRA DURAN WILSON is an abstract American painter and sculptor based in Santa Fe. Which Acrylic Medium Should I Use?

SHOP NOW Blending and Glazing with Polymer Mediums Left: Color blending with polymer medium. Right: Glazing with polymer medium. EMP160 is an advanced moulding paste (also known as laminating paste) for use in the production of high temperature moulds/tools for prepreg and resin infusion. EMP160 uses a special high-Tg epoxy resin combined with aluminium filler and short-strand glass reinforcement to produce a reliable and easy-to-apply structural reinforcement for high temperature moulds. Golden Clear Granular Gel, when wet, looks like rice pudding and feels very rough and gritty, as it’s full of little plastic shards. This makes it hard to handle, control and scratch into. Its opacity when wet, makes it hard to judge value, as it dries almost completely clear. Expect a massive colour shift if you’re combining it with acrylic colour. Lightly sand the textured surface before your start painting on it to remove imperfections. Wear a respirator when sanding.

Filling or filleting tight corners or complex details on moulds before laminating with compatible epoxy resin and reinforcement. It mixed easily with fluid acrylic, I chose a transparent Quinacridone Magenta, that created a gorgeous glaze, or rather lens, over an earlier painted mark. SHOP NOW Modeling Paste and Embossed Textures Left: Modeling paste. Right: Embossed texture made with modeling paste. Blending. Polymer medium makes it easier to blend colors together and, when a bit of water is added to the mix, the open time is extended. In the image above, used a combination of Payne’s gray and permanent violet dark, both mixed with polymer medium, and blended the two colors together. Acrylic paints tend to be glossy when dry, but you can take control of the sheen by adding acrylic paint mediums like semi-gloss or matte gel to the paint. This how-to guide to working with acrylic paint mediums, gels, pastes and more will help you expand the possibilities in every painting. Molding pastes increase body but are almost completely opaque and some have additives to give them unique textural effects. If you want to make colored modeling paste, just add a little bit of acrylic paint to your mixture (or substitute the white acrylic paint with a colored acrylic paint in the recipe that includes white acrylic paint as part of the recipe). EMP160 is designed for use with with EG160 High Temp Epoxy Tooling Gelcoat. When applying the paste onto the gelcoat, a fresh 'wet' application of EG160 gelcoat should be used to 'couple' the paste to the gelcoat. See technical datasheet for full details. It was very difficult to make it smooth and show up tool marks very distinctly. It would be very useful if you wanted to create distinct levels within a piece.

It was opaque but still slightly more transparent than I expected as you can see from the swatch on the left. The texture, when wet, feels like wet paper pulp. Once dry, it feels exactly like a rough handmade or lightly processed, recycled paper pulp, I would not say it gives exactly a manufactured paper feel even once dry. It is an off white colour when dry, making for a nice ground.
