Bromine is a less-reactive, but more expensive alternative to chlorine. Many people report bromine treatment being kinder on the skin and hair after spending time in the water. It has a 55% concentration of chlorine and is stabilized (contains CYA), giving it some extra life in your hot tub. Most test strips will allow you to test for either chlorine or bromine. If your test strips are 4-way (or higher) this means they can test for both. If you only have 3-way chlorine test strips, then you will need to buy some new bromine-compatible test strips.

Replace all of the water. This is a last resort, but if you're still struggling to get your levels in an acceptable range, you might be better off with a fresh start and new water. Chlorine demand of water too high at start up, after holidays or due to excess contamination or neglectThe bacteria, which is usually Pseudomonas aeruginosa, causes a skin infection. This can lead to an itchy rash that is worse in areas covered by a person’s swimsuit. A hot tub rash can also cause inflamed, pus-filled blisters to form around hair follicles.

Clearwater Foam Remover is designed to control and prevent foaming in your hot tub, which is typically caused by the reaction of water with shampoos, deodorants and natural body oils present on the user. Dip a ClearWater® Test Strip in the centre of your Lay‑Z‑Spa, remove and hold it still for 15 seconds. Break down Chloramines – sanitiser reacts with bather pollutants such as perspiration or dead skin, and produces a less effective chemical compound called chloramines which needs to be broken down. Chloramines have a strong chlorine odour that is often mistaken for too much chlorine, and make the water appear cloudy. If you use a dispenser like the Life Deluxe Spa/Hot Tub/Pool Chemical Floating Tablet Dispenser, it can take 2-3 months before all the tablets dissolve, at least on the lower settings. This is the slowest and most controlled way to dissolve bromine tablets that I've found since owning a spa. Can you use crushed bromine tablets in a hot tub?Chlorine tablets are fantastic at killing bacteria and making your hot tub safe. An upside of tablets is they dissolve over a period of time, meaning you have a constant supply of chlorine caring for the water. However, this has its own risks as not enough chlorine could be dissolving into the water as needed. For hot tub owners new to bromine, it's not always as simple as just adding it to the water and seeing it show up on test strips. In fact, it's a common problem to see no bromine reading at all, especially when you are first setting up the hot tub. Mini multifunctional tablets make chlorine levels slightly more difficult to measure since the chlorine is released slowly over time. A little bit of trial and error might be needed at first to find the sweet spot on your chemical floater or ChemConnet that maintains the perfect level of chlorine. However, once you have found the level that works for you it is relatively easy to keep chlorine levels consistent.

This TA Increaser helps raise Total Alkalinity levels, which in turn will help control pH levels and chlorine. In the event of spillage, clean up using clean receptacles and dispose of carefully. Do not add water to spilled materials. Do not use floor sweeping compounds to clean up spills. Sweep and scoop spilled material into clean, dedicated equipment. The slow-dissolving nature of the tablet means consistent dosing over time, which reduces the risk of chlorine dropping below the recommended 3-5ppm on your chlorinetest strips. Leave the spa open. If you can leave the cover off for a few hours, especially on a sunny day, a combination of evaporation and sunlight will help to break down the bromine faster. The water in a wood-fired hot tub is not automatically flushed or changed, which means that if the water isn’t changed regularly algae and bacteria will begin to grow, in addition to the contaminants which are added to the water every time it’s used… think shampoo, washing products, sweat, make up etc. These all build up in the water over time, reducing water quality. In bromine hot tubs, the ideal level is between 3 and 5 ppm. Unlike chlorine, there is no “combined bromine” level.
