This is another very good stand-alone novel from Thomas Perry, author of the Butcher's Boy and Jane Whitefield series. Shooting the series was two-thirds complete when production shut down in mid-March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. By the end, I still would have liked more detail on him, but I think not having that added to the mystery of the character.

What follows is a super fun thriller with our hero changing his identity a number of times and picking up a girlfriend along the way.Perry steers this cat-and-mouse adventure across the United States and, eventually, back to Libya, with verve, including just enough verisimilitude to keep intact the willing suspension of disbelief. Brooks places the epicenter of the Bigfoot war in a high-tech hideaway populated by the kind of people you might find in a Jurassic Park franchise: the schmo who doesn’t know how to do much of anything but tries anyway, the well-intentioned bleeding heart, the know-it-all intellectual who turns out to know the wrong things, the immigrant with a tough backstory and an instinct for survival. I enjoyed the audiobook re-read of The Old Man and the narration by Peter Berkrot was excellent in all voices. Thirty-five years ago when the Old Man was a young guy named Dan Chase and working for Army intelligence, he was assigned to deliver several million dollars to a Libyan strong man.

Bridges is probably best known for his role as The Dude in The Big Lebowski, though his career features a number of iconic performances in movies like The Last Picture Show, TRON, The Fisher King, Seabiscuit, Iron Man, Crazy Heart (his Oscar-winning role), True Grit and Hell or High Water.When it comes to his attention the money isn't making into the hands it was supposed to and instead has been kept by the middleman in the transaction, Chase pulls a double cross and steals it back. The first thing I’d like to suggest to them is that maybe “breaking out” isn’t the best goal for a career. Perry drives deep into Jack Reacher territory in this stand-alone about a long-ago Army intelligence officer whose less-than-grateful nation just won’t let him be .
